I don't understand what there is to take so seriously in this thread. It's not like James has ever been some kind of cinematographical genius even in the beginning. It’s a handful of people that actually hate James mixed with a bunch of people who think James should wrap it up mixed with some people who still like James and hope that he can get inspired again and point out when Cinemassacre actually puts out decent content.

And everybody agrees Rex Viper is cringe.

Most people are just fascinated by James' character because he is incredibly weird. Even funnier is that he doesn't see it himself, since his narcissism has deluded him into thinking he's this amazing film-maker. His 2021 BTS video and auto-biography display this perfectly. James is a treasure trove of hilarity when you start to look into him deeper.

He's not a great film-maker, though, he's pretty crap at writing and directing. The one thing he is good at, and which sold his early work as short funny internet videos, is his editing. Though he's probably only good at editing short videos, looking at his longer stuff. But of course he's stopped editing himself altogether, so the videos are no longer funny and all the rest quickly stands out as being bad. Cringe, even.

The idea that I get angry when people criticize or make fun of James is based on a lack of critical thinking and poor observation.
I merely am tired of the same 5 jokes. Look what happened when he did the Soylent advert, I was right along with everyone else in thinking it was a retarded move and I still think it was a retarded move.
The VPN and headphone adverts make sense since it has to do with the internet and videos. I hate when people do those food advertisements like Green Chef or whatever, it’s so out of place. Now, if cooking channels did it, that would be one thing.

This is one of those statements that doesn’t really have any basis in reality as there’s not much, if any evidence to suggest that James is narcissistic at all.

I'd say he's competent. It's not truly fair to judge his filmmaking skills by gauging Nerd episodes when it's a completely different format. Instead, it's better to judge by his attempts at a fictional narrative:

Production-wise it looks fine. Albeit student film-tier but this is 2005 so he gets a pass. The lack of camera stabilization in almost every shot is more distracting. I'll even forgive the crappy titles since it was 2005. I would say this is overall "decent" although B&W cinematography hides a lot of flaws because you don't have to worry too much about lighting.

The real problem is the pacing and this is something editing could have fixed. So I will disagree with your assertion that he's good at editing. The writing and pacing are the major problems and we noticed this again in the AVGN movie.

Also, I think James stole the premise of The Deader the Better from Cemetery Man. Either Cemetery Man or The Video Dead which has a lengthy segment where an old cowboy-looking guy teams up with a teenager and they go zombie hunting.

I'm not sure if he's gonna look good with a bald head. Doug does, but he always was kinda bald to begin with so we bought it. James used to have a lot of hair, but then the inevitability of male genes hit. I think the hair growth thing would work much better.

Overall James was put on a pedestal for a long time, as the OG content creator who didn't had any major drama. If you keep somebody in that high regard, the madder you will get when they slip up. Especially if you are an autist who consumed the same content for over a decade.

A lot of the Truthers were big fans of Cinemassacre and have become (irrationally) disillusioned with James because of some bad decision making and the shocking conclusion that the AVGN is just a character he played. They like the idea of AVGN but not James Rolfe himself.

It’s like how some of the Filthy Frank fans were back in the day. They couldn’t accept that FF was just a character that George Miller played and wanted the character to be the real person.

So these Redditors have made it their life’s mission to deride the evil Rolfe for “betraying” them.
Yes, some of them really do feel “betrayed” because James’ content has gotten stagnant and that he made some bad decisions in regards to his business and friendships.
