That's the irony of it - if he actually got a proper "dad band" together it might still be cringey and mid-life crisis as fuck, but it would likely not be as horrible because at least dad bands tend to met and rehearse in person as they're often an excuse to get away from the family and crack a few beers.

Rex Viper COULD be passable though, enjoyable even. That contrast someone made to a band like Powerglove is very appropriate. If Rex put in the effort they could easily be a local/nerd event sort of band. The Rex Viper audiences seem more there for James than they are to check out a band.

There's no many solvable problems with the band but James just is so fucking timid to be a little ruthless or cutthroat and pursue any of those quality changes. Usually with a mid life crisis the person had a burst of drive and energy in my experience. This though like wtf man.

They aren't trying to represent themselves as something they aren't. I'm just saying Rex Viper is probably one of the least egregious things James has done. At least it seems like something he wants to do, and has fun doing, and not something he is being forced to do because its a paycheck. I would imagine most of the people there pay for it so they can see James, the part where he's in a shitty band is incidental. James seems to play the rhythm guitar sections just fine too. In the genre they are doing (same I've spent 99% of my time in) you're playing power chords and other dyads along with some open chords. Real easy stuff, a little practice to stay on beat and proper EQ and you'll sound just fine.

That other guitar player doesn't practice, doesn't set up their guitar (it goes out of tune real easy by my observations), and tries to do more than they can do.

That megaman melody is not something I can play, but I could learn it in a day and be playing it up to speed within a week. Fucking practice it dude!!!!! God damn it!!!!

They also definitely need a sound person of their own, because the venues sound guy could not give two flying shits. He's going to make sure nobody is clipping and walk away to smoke while he waits to get paid.

Hell, I bet they didn't even sound check at that comic convention they were at, and if they did they had no idea what to listen for and gave the sound guy complete shit to work with to begin with. Bedroom EQ =/= Basement EQ =/= to Live EQ.

Holy shit! That was awesome! For the sake of comparison, I re-watched the original Atari Porn episode first. It had been years and I forgot just how fucking great AVGN was back then.

I wasn't expecting anything good or bad from the "edited for TV" version but my sides were splitting by the end. This is definitely the funniest video he has released in ages.
