I would somewhat agree with you if Rex Viper had been a tiny little gag he did during the pandemic and made those few music videos, as bad as they were.

But no, James has doubled down to the point of performing live numerous times despite never rehearsing with the band, and he regularly promotes the live videos on social media like it's a legit thing he wants everyone to follow. The live performances never have positive feedback on Youtube, and hell, look at the audience reaction in the official uploads.
Naturally he's going to double down on this. That's how a mid life crisis works. He genuinely thinks what he's doing is good and he's desperately clinging to it, refusing to realize he's gotta embrace that he's at the halfway point with kids and a wife, you know?

That kinda thing happens to a lot of people in their 40s. You miss being young and being able to afford doing this kinda stupid shit, before you had a job, kids and a family to take care of. Because of this, Rex Viper is just a passing thing and he's eventually going to stop doing it. When he does, he'll either realize he's too old for this shit now and he should focus on what's most important, or he's going to try something else since Rex Viper didn't pan out.

I might be late, but here's Dancing With Ghosts' take on the newest Rex Viper show (this guy is kinda an A-log for Cinemassacre
Guy looks like a complete and utter douchebag.
He did a collab with Red Cow Arcade a while back
What a star studded video, packed with titans of the YouTube landscape.

His midlife crisis could have been far far worse.

When I checked Twitter the other day and saw Cinemassacre unironically share their October Portland show -- and treat it like it was something they were proud of -- I visibly cringed, and then cringed harder after watching it.
If you could shit in a cup and know some people would give you thousands of dollars and tell you it tasted good, you'd be stupid not to.

It's true that Rex Viper sucks, but James's mid-life crisis band isn't worth getting upset over.
Yeah, a silly amateur band that does songs about vidya is just a nice hobby.

What's going on with James's getup though? I could put the Sonnenrad behind him and it would fit.

It was Halloween and they wanted to dress up, but they can't exactly play in full costumes. They're not GWAR.

Even if Rex Viper sucks, I can appreciate them going out and having a good time despite the fact they know they aren't the best.
Rex Viper would be tolerable and harmless if it wasn’t for them keeping inviting back Justin Sliverman. Justin legitimately bringing down the quality of the music of a band not that good to begin with.

I thought for years that James still doing the AVGN was just because Mike was happy to do most of the work actually playing the games and writing jokes. And James found it was a solid creative outlet to practice filmmaking in. However nowadays with Mike gone and James's weird obsession with being in a 1980s cover band, it comes across like James is obsessed with recapturing his youth now that he's middle aged.

They are 40. It's not cute, bro. Stop pretending.
You ever see that movie "Wild Hogs"? Its that. People are so asshurt about a vidya cover dad band it's crazy. Really all they need to do us get an actual singer and stop relying on whatever sound guy the venue gives them if they want to sound good. I've played in bands for years on and off and they are all relatively new to playing in a unit it feels like. That just comes with time.

I've had better chemistry playing music with randos I met on craigslist than Rex viper has playing together.

I wish following these dudes was more entertaining. honestly I miss when the loco bandito was doing unhinged shit. Mike used to crack me up with his antics. I can't tell anymore if TCT people or James are more retarded and James is a certified retard. at least back in the day Mike would be drunkenly causing problems with parasocial fans or rambling about anal on official social media or whatever. now it's just pathetic to see James do shit he either hates, or nobody in the audience cares about. I wish the guy had an out to go do something else, at this point I can't even really laugh about any of it.

Well yeah that's what happens when you don't practice in person weekly and when you go from the basement right to a video game con.
That's the irony of it - if he actually got a proper "dad band" together it might still be cringey and mid-life crisis as fuck, but it would likely not be as horrible because at least dad bands tend to met and rehearse in person as they're often an excuse to get away from the family and crack a few beers.
