I remember a few years ago I was at toomanygames and James had like his own little booth where he was selling some of his old games. It was a very small booth and had some interesting stuff on sale. Had to have been before whatever falling out with mike happened because some of the games were mike's and labelled as such with his name on the cart. I actually bought a game from him and what's funny about that is there were like just a bunch of people asking him for autographs on and off out of fucking nowhere and he was like "yeah ok" and did it and during this exchange he ended up accidentally signing the game I was buying from him it was the funniest shit because he visibly had that expression people get when they realize they just fucked up. Sad to see what's become of the AVGN/Cinemassacre situation.

Speaking of Mike Matei's situation, I don't care how much he occasionally tries omitting it's existence from the internet, minecraft with gadget is a god damn masterpiece of a shitposty game review.

He is mad jealous that Metal Jesus Rocks has a far longer line.

Day 2, 11:23-25. No sign of the Professional yet, but the Caveman is like ten feet away from me as I type this.

Edit 3:04 PM - I’m at the Screenwave panel. There’s literally only 15 people here. The Metal Jesus panel had at least 50 more people.

Edit 2 at 3:05 PM - Justin complained that the panel room was several floors up. Probably struggled up the stairs.

Tony has no mic. They must’ve had no time to prepare for this.

A lot of awkward silence…

It's funny how Justin still finds a way to insert himself into a video even when he's not in it.

Just thinking out loud and here's how I'd fix the channel:

Keep Screenwave but keep the guys BEHIND the camera. They have no personality, they're not likable and the audience now actively hates them. Keep them firmly behind the camera at all times. Secondly, James needs to be more actively involved in the creation of content. Be more proactive regarding quality control. Bring back Mike and do James and Mike Mondays. He could try more podcast-y shit but do it with people who have a personality and don't have faces you want to punch. Do a podcast with Mike, or that neighbor, anyone but Screenwave.

Anyone else catch the WATP/Who are these podcasts episode reviewing the podcast? They only talk about it for an hour of the episode but I loved hearing Karl and Cros’s comments about how much they hate how boring the podcast is.

Justin was going to be a guest on the episode but wasn’t able to due to scheduling conflicts.

Rex Viper is the perfect encapsulation of modern Cinemassacre.

Content no one wants.

Lots of time wasted on it.

Slobs front and center.
Modern AVGN is very much equivalent to the Video game reviewer version of The Simpsons, meaning that while there is endless debate when the series jumped the shark, both of them haven’t been funny for a long time and seriously need to fuck off.

I'm completely out of the loop. What happened with Mike? He just disappeared like Bootsy?

I'm out of the loop on the mike thing too, but his abscence, and people talking about it like they had a falling out or something, combined with no mention of mike whatsoever by james is really fucking weird. Especiallytaking into account the whole cinemassacre thing being a thing the 2 of them did as friends for quite a while before this whole screenwave things been going down. It's really fucking weird.

I hope he's back to drawing Loco Bandito

Mike streams quite a bit on Twitch now, & ppl always used to ask about him & James stopping their Monday vids/etc. Of course he said everything is cool between them, Mike just wanted to move on to streaming somewhat full time & James has his own projects he's interested in. Maybe it was obvious but until hearing a lot of Mike's streaming commentary on retro games & just old stories in general... i never realized that Mike was the one doing the gameplay for the majority of the AVGN vids.

He just left Cinemassacre. As far as I know, there's not really anything major between him or James, and the two still do collaborations on some occasions (vid from August 2021).

He doesn't seem to have anything against Screenwave either, since the gaming channel he runs has Screenwave's Ryan as a cohost, and is affiliated with Screenwave's other properties (Cinemassacre Podcast, Hack the Movies, etc).

I guess what it comes down to is that Mike grew tired of having any more involvement with Cinemassacre, especially as its reaching it low point, so he probably decided to step back and do his own thing, which isn't bad at all.

Helping is that he doesn't seem too concerned about having kids or dealing with poor time management, meaning he likely more passionate for the stuff he does, and enjoys more creative control over his endeavors than James is.

Remember when James fixed Kill Bill by cutting all the dialog and leaving just the action scenes?
You clearly just do not have the genius of a true film curator like James. You don't make 500 movies for nothing. Hell, give James alien, he will fix that franchise.
