Ok so is there genuinely something wrong with me that as someone who has been watching AVGN since 2006, I’m not coming to the same conclusions that you guys and the smooth brains on Reddit are?
I’ve noticed the dip in quality sure, but I genuinely find most of the late 2017-present episodes enjoyable.

Like I said, maybe there’s something wrong with me.
i've been watching since the very first episode and the new shit is absolute dogshit garbage trash. i unsubbed from him 3 years ago because it was only getting worse. stinkwave killed avgn and james is a betacuck spineless pussy

I know the series is almost definitely going to continue, since it prints money. But if the last episode was the finale for the entire series, I think it'd make for a nearly perfect final episode. It had the Nerd finally overcoming his biggest "nemesis" and also finally making a game himself, realizing how hard it is when he fails, and coming to the logical end of his character arc. It even concludes on a book end, with the first line of the series also being the last line. There's a cathartic sense of finality to it.

If it stopped here, I think it would be perfect. Sure, Screenwave has been polarizing, but they also put out episodes at a steady, consistent pace and even the worst AVGN episode is still pretty watchable. It would be like if Simpsons ended with "Behind the Laughter." Seasons 10-11 had some stinkers, but also some classics, and ended there would've left the series with vastly more good episodes than bad.

Nigga, what the fuck are you talking about?

finally watched the episodes. I expected nothing and still got disappointed.
I sincerely thought that he would probably make a 3 parter on sony ps1-3. then tie it up with a side story that times moves on, and game dev was in infacy during the 80s so theres a lot of bad games, but with passing of time people learn and stop making unplayable games, but he realizes theres still bad games still being made....

then he transitions his reviewing style to a zero punctuation style reviewing. but then I realized, he doesn't have the wit or writing chops to do what Kroshaw can do

Chiming in with the AVGN reviews we disagree with, I'd bring up Lester the Unlikely. James' jabs at the game are hilarious though there are some mechanics that he missed. He didn't even mention that the main character gets scared of things he encounters and runs away until he's able to kill them. And the fact the main character becomes less of a pussy after getting kissed by a girl. On the part where he keeps getting chased by a flock of bats he didn't know that he can pick up a rock and toss it at the bats to stop them. Though, to be fair the rock seems to be a part of the background so it's hard to notice.

Seems pretty unfair to the game where he just shat on it non-stop so maybe he could have handled it more neutrally but still shat on it as he explains how the game works totally. The game still has annoying moments after all, like the section with the burning/falling ground and the eagle that takes you back a mile.

EDIT: Disregard the bat one, forgot that part where he actually noticed that.

It's still a pretty bad game. I never got the appeal of oldschool Prince of Persia style games that demand pixel perfect platforming with controls like that. Nosferatu on the SNES is like that as well but the game has a lot of other good qualities that kind of make up for the punishing difficulty making jumps.

Never said it was good, thanks to the controls and indeed there are some stages where they seem to have created while having a different kind of platforming in mind. IMO it has a section it does well, it sucks on some parts. Still, James could have had some good points on those concepts he missed, plus the ending is just as ridiculous (and a bit stupid) too.

In short from what I've seen it was them being more "realistic" since alot of those types of games had realitic (or as realistic as an old PC/NES/SNES could put out) graphics and animation. I also never got why people liked them, as most were pretty crappy control wise or just felt super delayed due to the game playing out a half second animation for just about damn everything. I've always hated those games, and could never get into them mostly because of getting frustrated by the controls.

James should have done ET at the prime of AVGN, not revolve it around a movie.

I even remember seeing a Mike Drawn title card for ET back in the day. But nope, James ignored it, rubbed it in in the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”, further put it off on camera in “Halloween” and now that he did it for a movie that screwed him, he has no time.

I’ve never sussed out why this dude makes people mad. Seeing a thread on him made me think I was browsing /tv/
People aren't mad, they're disappointed. It would be one thing if James just doesn't care about AVGN. He's been doing for 15 years full time, it would make sense that he's burned out and is letting other people write it. However, James didn't even write reviews for Monster Madness this year. That was a big passion project for him and for him to have no time for it says a lot about how little he cares about making videos anymore. James is just doing the bare minimum and he has contempt for those who complain about it (those of the assholeish variety). The only passion he has for anything is Rex Viper and people think it sucks. James is a shell of his former self. He's making videos for the sake of getting money via ads and sponsorships and nothing else.

I wouldn't say this thread is mad at James. Being absolutely pissed at the dude i feel is a little extreme. It's more frustration and being annoyed at someone who clearly has a lot of talent do nothing and pump out crappy content compared to before. For me atleast I ain't mad, I'm just disappointed.

Now reddit on the other hand, they hate James. Those dudes are the huge A-logs who need to chill out and stop treating James failing show like its a national emergency.

Some of those guys are very cringe. A guy even uploaded himself leaving a nasty voicemail at the number for Screenwave blaming them for ruining the AVGN. Personally, and I think most people already get it, James is largely responsible for the downfall of the channel by not caring any more. Screenwave may have had bad ideas like the Nerd is Word meme but he could have easily said no to doing it.

He should've done it way earlier and as an episode, and the AVGN movie really should've been about something else.

The idea wasn't bad on paper, reviewing what was regarded to be the worst video game in history and it's for a film, besides that was the dream of what at least some of the fans of AVGN would want to watch. Needless to say, nowadays not only the game has been reviewed to death, it was actually later regarded to be not that terrible of a game at least compared with other games for the console. As for the game itself, there's really nothing much to the game to begin with compared with what even worse games the Nerd has covered apart from bad controls and glitches, and heck considering the game was programmed in only 5-6 weeks that's actually a good feat.

On that note I was looking up the co-director and probably the real director Kevin Finn. He was in two episodes, the Glitch Gremlin and Ninja Gaiden one's. Great episodes but I digress. Looking up this guy on IMDB and he has had some mainstream success.

Working on the reality shows Duck Dynasty, Biggest Looser, and Mama June (ugh) as a "story editor." Whatever the fuck that is. I would assume it's a guy who concocts a story to go along with edits, so basically a kind of editor I.E. takes unrelated scenes and pieces them together to form some kind of juicy content. Side note: does anyone still give a fuck about these reality shows?

Following that is over a dozen producer/director credits. All of which are YT videos like this:

It looks like he's doing commission work and getting approached by people who want to make YT content but don't have the means or know how to do so. He's obviously not really a filmmaker and more of a guy doing point and shoot get the shot done kind of production work.

So why have this guy direct the bulk of the AVGN movie? Who knows? Shirking responsibility or entrusting a highschool friend or a little bit of both?

Part 3 is probably the best of them since the game selections are more varied, there's less clips from better AVGN episodes reminding you what this episode isn't, and Screenwave aren't running the "Nerd doesn't know sports" joke into the ground. Hell, I actually laughed at the Aerosmith game and the stupid parodies of Aerosmith songs. Maybe because I was drunk but to me that was one of the funniest AVGN moments all year. The end credits were nice and would've made a good ending for AVGN in general. But it still has all the same problems of the rest of these LJN reviews in that it's too short and it seems like they played the games for half an hour tops before writing a few jokes and moving on.

Overall, I think you could edit this episode into 15-20 minutes and get something that passes as a decent nowadays AVGN episode. Still a very disappointing Episode 200 for the hype it was given, and the Action 52 comparisons are still quite valid.
As I’ve previously stated, I think James should end AVGN and focus on content that sparks his passion. Hell, even if it’s Rex Viper. If Rex Viper makes him happy, I want him to keep doing it. Which is funny considering the truthers used to say the exact same thing as I did AKA “I want him to do what makes him happy” until he did Rex Viper and they all went “But not like that!”
Rex Viper should absolutely never show up in Cinemassacre stuff at this point since it's clear Screenwave has no idea how to use them. Was it James's idea to put his band everywhere on the channel and in AVGN episodes? If so, it was a colossally stupid move since all he did was make him and his bandmates the target of mockery and derision. Like if Rex Viper received minimal promotion, it would just be "Oh, did you know AVGN plays in a rock band" and people would check it out and simply shrug and move on.

What? ET is like the granddaddy of all the bad movie adaptions on NES that AVGN built his name trashing. It's an Atari game that tries something ambitious but instead you get a buggy mess where all you do is have ET jump in holes the entire game.

I'm starting to think rex viper is a form of Day Dreaming Davey where james' life is so terrible now he wants to be on the road rocking out and having actual attractive women throw their panties at him or something. Isekai season when?
Also I can't get myself to watch 200. It's too depressing.

I can only speak for myself. I'm not mad at him, in fact I really like him. Hell, unlike a huge number of people in the thread I even still like the AVGN episodes he puts out. But I agree with the general sentiment that it's time to move on and do something else. He has the talent to do really impressive, ambitious and unique stuff, and the Nerd is kinda tired. He's capable of a lot more than just what we've been seeing.
