Mike is pretty good about keeping the energy levels up and can be funny sometimes. Ryan is a drip, but at least he knew when to shut up and let Mike talk.

The issue with the show wasn't the personalities (for the most part), but the format. In the show, each of the hosts would present a game to talk about. Mike would talk about a retro game. And Ryan would talk about a modern title. Mike was usually pretty good at describing his games, and explaining why they were fun or not fun. Ryan, though, is a complete idiot who could barely form a thought, and struggled to describe simple games like Fortnite and the untitled goose game. So, ultimately, every episode would be Mike talking about his game for 10 minutes, and Ryan trying (and failing) to describe his game for 50 minutes while Mike looked on confused.

The show would have been better if they had a faster format. More games, less Ryan.

Even the most rabid Bimmy/Cinemassacre fan isn't as delusional and dedicated towards getting the subreddit shutdown as Boogie was back when S&T was still "documenting" him. S&T only really got shutdown after months and months of reports from Boogie for "harassment" and as of yet there isn't a Cinemassacre fan dedicated enough to do anything similar, nor does James even know about the subreddit's existence in the first place. I think the mods have enough sense to crackdown on what's going to get them banned (the comments about Ryan trooning out) rather than the S&T mods who were bafflingly incompetent.

The biggest factor in AVGN's degrading entertainment value (which started in 2011 IMO) was James's upgrading of video and audio equipment. Once he started adding volume compressors, he became loud when he was composed/informational and loud when he was angry. The lack of dynamic range neutered the crescendos of his episodes and the paralanguage of his rants. The condensed volume likely incentivized him to underperform the character too. "Quality" is now in the hands of the technology after all, or at least that's what creators want to believe when they shell out the cash for it. My favorite AVGN bit was in the Batman episode, where the Nerd's ebb and flow of unfettered irritation served as a timely and nuanced buildup to Batman Forever's explosive controls rants, which is the apex of the episode, if not the AVGN series as a whole.

He should have stuck to using cruddy equipment. Would have been interesting if he kept up the shtick completely with 4:3 aspect ratio and analog audio in a world where everyone uses digital shit.

I still don't get how he can play NES games on a HD/4K tv considering the input lag must be fucking hell, unless he's found a way to remove the lag completely.

You can get one of those TV's with low latency. But I wonder what the latency would be considering he is using original hardware but with super cartridges.

I have a raspberry pi emulation console I play a ton of old games with. Setting the tv to game mode and turning off reduction and motion enhancement mode reduces any lag to negligible levels.

Depends on the age of the car and whatever bullshit the manufacturer was doing with the dash paneling, I've been in crap cars like late 90s Pontiacs where they did a bunch of weird rounded plastic molding around the stereo bay that would have made it a massive pain to disassemble or find a stereo that would fit the area correctly.

30 seconds in and he's like "I guess everyone on the internet didn't like. So I'm left wondering why it's getting a sequel." Because it's the highest grossing film of all time (unadjusted for inflation). That's why. It's very simple. This video is going to be a shit show. I can tell.

Edit: getting further through his video it really sucks. James assumes this smug and contrarian opinion defending Avatar. Coming to the conclusion that people thought it was overhyped in comparison to Titanic and that people hated it because it ripped off and/or was inspired by several other movies thus comparing it to Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I think the man is just burnt out. It doesn't seem to matter if Screenwave is writing the scripts or it's James. It seems like unless Mike is kicking his ass to do something he just doesn't care anymore. A shame because there was still so much left. I would have loved a video during the golden age covering all of the terrible mascot platformers that came in the wake of Sanic like Gex, Aero the Acrobat, Zero: the Kamikaze Squirrel, and fuckloads of others.
