I wouldn’t classify him as a CAREER cow. Because he hasn’t been one the whole time. And it’s been pretty mild compared to most cows so that’s a plus I guess. But yes it’s sad to see.

All he had to do was title the video “FPS: First Person Shooter coming soon!” and nobody would have complained.




Also, he’s gotta shave the hair off man. Like, he can even write it in the character that the nerd lost all his hair from the games being so bad.

They probably brought him in because he's a recognizable personality in the "video game space" that still gets views on Youtube, and they hope it translates into a few sales for their documentary.

It's kind of like when they put some aging star in a modern music video or film in the hopes that aging boomers and gen x'ers will look at it.

That's what AVGN viewers are now. The aging boomers and gen xers of vidya.

I get the impression that with the dramatic uptick in unmoderrated detractor comments that we might just see another Behind the Scenes And Nerd Room Tour 2021-tier of response.

If the majority of comments are ruthlessly shitting on the content there's only so long you can keep going like this before a downfall. Not that I really want to see one. If anything, I want to see improvement. My hypothesis is that Screen Wave AND James are to blame for the decline of the channel and honestly what needs to be done is (1) hire one or more writers who are actually funny and talented and work with James and (2) whip James' lazy ass into shape. If you don't care about AVGN anymore then okay, maybe take the character in new directions? The series where he reviewed game cover art in character is a direction to take it. Maybe do a new generation thing and the Nerd is like a Force Ghost showing others how to beat games and gets to crack a few jokes? Or you could even do a GameCenter CX kind of thing and the Nerd has transitioned to making people play these shitty games? It might be a kind of ripoff of Popquiz Hotshot but it could work? I'm just spitballing ideas that are better than Rex Viper or just doing the same thing over and over with as little thought or care put into it as much as possible.
