I kinda understand him, since emulation has things like input lag, audio innacuracies and visuals designed to be blurred together on CRT display that looks like shit on LCD, that noticeably lower the quality of gameplay for people who are used to play on original hardware.

Yeah, I myself only use emulators if I have to because I always have one of two experiences with them:

Either A) they introduce some new issue that suddenly makes the game play weird--most recently I was playing Zelda II on an emulator and getting my hand assed to me, but then I played it on an actual NES and breezed through it and started to notice I seemed to have tighter controls (granted this could be down to just my PC controller having issues, but that's still a potential emulation hurdle)

Or else B) Emulators introduce psychological factors. I remember the first time I played Ninja Gaiden was on Nesticle and I didn't understand why people said it was hard. Can you guess what nigger playstyle I was using at the time?

Even beyond that I find when I play on real hardware I feel more committed and less likely to just give up and play something else.

Funny you say Zelda II 'cause I've breezed through it in RetroArch, but after testing it with the input lag removal setting the controls were so off I couldn't pass the first palace.

Ding ding ding! you got it. Wasn't til I played Ninja Gaiden on an actual NES (where I've gotten to the final boss but never beat it) that I realized why this series has a reputation.

Then there's stuff like Mega Man which I've seen people call hard, but I never understood why.

Try using Run Ahead set to 2 frames in Mesen and see if that makes it play a little better.

In other news, a lot of people like to talk about Raid 2020 beginning the “new shirt era” which we’re currently in, but has anyone noticed the “sideburns/chops era” from like 2012 to 2016 where James had those big ass sideburns?

Also, what year, or more specifically what episode, do you guys consider the “slob era” to begin?
I say the final “Slob” video is Kid Icarus since that’s the last video where one of the slobs, Kieran, gets credited as helping with the videos.

I found a video comparing two similar clips of old and new AVGN that showcase the difference in acting we've all felt but can't quite put into words.

Two things become very noticeable when you compare these two sketches:
1) His acting has become more stiff and now he defaults to premade faces: the typical angry rant, the angry screaming face, the cuckface when he's surprised.
2) The thick-rimmed glasses hide his eyebrows and make his face less expressive, contributing to the problem of stiff acting.

What I don't understand is why he doesn't just use emulated footage after playing the game on the Game Gear?

No it's not fucking emulation anymore when you're using new hardware doing things exactly like old hardware did. It's like calling emulation the replacing of a hammer handle. It's functionally the same hammer, what emulation would be in this example is hammering nails with an axe.

I'll be the Devil's advocate on this one. The newer rant is inferior because James already made that joke and this was supposed to be a quick throwback rather than an elaborated joke itself.
