eh, if the game's generally considered good, he'lll parrot the same general sentiments...see EB, Majora's Mask, Mario 3 etc.

timestamped (and if it doesn't work, :34 sec)
Ah, it was right at the beginning. Yeah... it was more expensive than the regular SNES game MSRP but... that's basically the same wording that James used. Combine that with James' editor overlaying the soundtrack in the game footage in the AVGN video instead of using the actual audio that would be with the footage had he recorded it and not had Mike's shitty audio quality...

Dammit James, you almost did a decent episode... except you fucking didn't.

are we going to see him still doing this in 10 years time, when he barely has any hair left? The "Nerd" persona has been gone for a while, it's clear James is just phoning it in and not playing a character anymore
Most likely yes and here is why take a look at the numbers

Monster madness averaging about 150kish views per videos
Neighbor nerds averaging 130k
A reupload of an AVGN from 15 years ago with half a million views
AVGN episode dominating with 1.3 million views

It's clear as day AVGN is the thing keeping the channel alive and profitable. It's the cashcrop. Without it He's getting a tiny fraction of the views and ad money. If he stops doing the bit he's been forced to do for 19 years the channel

Fine enough review. I just seriously have my doubts he actually played this growing up. The review itself just feels like he’s reading the Wikipedia article on FFVI instead of drawing from personal memories. James never had struck me as the RPG type, pretty sure any game not bing bing wahoo would have fried his boomer mind. Like others have said, I get the feeling he cribbed most of his “experiences” from Mike.

Pretty *meh* episode, more of a lazy video review than an ANGRY nerd review. I like the episodes about shitty games a lot more. Plus any review about a large RPG is going to drag on unless you are a serious fan.

Also, he should probably just wear that Santa hat full time from now on.

i think it's half/half.

The story about losing a save / buying it with his money is probably both mike's original stories, or bullshit + mike.

but conversely, he has said in the past RPG's aren't really his thing, but he's also said 6 is his one of his fave SNES games. I do believe he probably played 6 as a kid.

Meh, I see no reason to be picky. This episode hit me right in the feels and was an overall positive experience. Kinda makes me wanna play the game again.

I legit never have gotten the path where Celes almost kills herself, I always save Cid.

If James wants to do another JRPG the no brainer on will be Chrono Trigger considering its really new player friendly and has a huge fanbase.
Are there any more JRPG's he talked positively on? I mean i know that it is whatever Mike plays that goes but i'm curious, he never got into "thinking games" like Maniac Mansion so my guess is that his taste of RPGS are veeeery shallow.

Wonder if he will do Final Fantasy VII during the remake sequel's release. Wonder what Spoony says about this review.
I find it hard to believe James has any kind of history with VII. If he did, he would have said something by now. If the Screenwave fatasses make him do a video on it, because Rebirth is about to come out for that sweet SEO, be wary that this will likely not be genuine in any way. That, and the gameplay will be 90% from Mike's Twitch.

I'm pretty sure James said he took a break from gaming by the time the PlayStation came out. I think he said he had an N64 back in the day but he never touched a PSX at all back then.

Didn't he make a timeline video about the Dragon Quest series a few years back?
He did and he sounded pretty uninterested narrating that as if he never actually played the Dragon Quest games. It doesn't say who wrote that video, but it's pretty easy to assume one of the slobs wrote and researched that one not James.

I'm just remembering his Kingdom Hearts timeline video that was blatantly a cash grab for Kingdom Hearts III's release. James outright admitted he never played any of the games so it was just an empty experience.

Still, this new Final Fantasy video of his was pretty nice. I still think, ironically, some of his best videos lack a lot of the anger he usually has.

I’ve been away for a bit but just wanted to say that the Final Fantasy 3(6) video was a damn good episode of AVGN. Much like the Majora’s Mask video, Contra Memories, DOOM video, and Jekyll & Hyde final review, James seemed to have actual passion here.

Onto Cinemassacre related news, the James video Grift continues as that Spitroasted by Ghosts homo made another video about James/Cinemassacre and it did pretty well for him. It’s sitting at 38k views which is much much better than any of his other content generates. Funnily enough, the only content he makes that gets over 3k views is either James/Rex Viper/Cinemassacre related or recently a video about Pat the NES Punk.

So much like Elfy and Beardo of Red Cow Media, these people can’t generate content that viewers find interesting, but they luckily stumbled upon a market they can milk the everloving shit out of, James A-loggers.
They release one video about James/Cinemassacre because they DO truly feel the way they come across, but then they notice they’re getting WAAAY more views than on their regular content so they lean into the James hate and keep on making videos when they’d probably have only made the one video about it.
