It's important that when you first start out, you need to work within your limits.
Music is half music half appearance, so you need an image, but they can't do the raw bad boy edge. They should just focus on being boomers and working with that, they're trying to hard with so little.
They lack stage presence, and even great bands can't get away with that.
To be fair the Pixies looked like regular schmucks and it seemed to work for them.

People go see the Pixies because they like their music and they put on a decent show. They’re talented musicians and have a legacy. People go see Rex Viper because they play Arcade Conventions and it’s an opportunity to see the AGVN in person.

If they want to take being in a band seriously, they have to tighten up their set, learn how to soundmix their stage, and engage the crowd.

I really don't get why James doesn't just wear a hairpiece when he's playing the Nerd. He could definitely afford a high-quality one, it'd work better for the character than what he's doing now, and he could finally shave his head without worrying about jeopardizing the Nerd's image. It's a character role,

Jesus fucking Christ. His hairline gets worse and worse with every episode. He fucking wears a hat outside the nerd character. Buddy, when your hairline is that bad, it's time to shave it. He could even work this lore into the nerd character where he's fighting some villain and loses his hair.

What kind of hat would a nerd wear? I keep thinking of propeller beanies or that Jughead crown-hat.
I think he should either start wearing a clown wig, or a hat like this:

And, just like his weird balding conehead, never mention it or acknowledge it whatsoever.

He's barely even touched any of the generations that came after the SNES, there's so much potential there, N64, PS1, PS2, hell even 360 and PS3 and the Wii are now considered "retro" and every single console in that list has mounds of shovelware he could make a video about and he's doing a video instead about a "game" created as a fucking meme that's already been done to death by LPers for years, which really doesn't fit his content at all. They also covered it on James & Mike Mondays at one time so it's also a retread.
The gigachad move would have moved into interviewing and research why exactly all those shitty games turned out to be so shitty. Invite the people who developed ghostbusters and actually ask them wtf where they thinking.

But nope, just keep turning out the kind of video of through the heavily jewed lens of 2024 Youtube.

Similar hat to, but better choice than, this one..

That would be a good idea for someone like The Gaming Historian. James would probably accept a company statement email on the matter and call it a day, let alone tracking someone down and interviewing them

Later today the Horse Prince video will be 1 week old and still needs dozens of thousands of views to get to half a million.

At this pace, I think it will get to 1kk in more than a month. Even in the early slobwave era, AVGN would get 1kk in the first 48 hours.

That's been happening for a while now. Some of the videos took a month to cross the million view threshold and that was something easily achieved in less than 24 hours even 3-4 years ago.

It feels like we're witnessing everything winding down in real time.

I think it also has to do with how Horse Prince feels so out of place for James to "Review", if it was someone like Jontron who tackled it, it could be fine. But AVGN as a brand is associated with games that people actually paid for, not shit like this.

Hell the only feasible way I could even see the Horse Prince making millions of views quick is if AVGN's review came out around the same time the game's meme status was relevant.
