James is boring as shit and this is somewhat related to the AVGN so I'm just going to post this here MetalJesusRocks a channel that for years directly contributed to the current horrible state of retro gaming we are in now with his "hidden gems" videos made a video complaining about it. If you ever go to a used games store and see an N64 priced at 150 dollars it's collectors like this that made that happen.

I never liked this faggot, he always came off really pretentious to me. It's also my personal belief that he's tried to purposefully inflate the price of games in the past for him to make a profit.

He did. MetalJesusrocks used to tell his Patreon Patrons in advance which which games he was making hidden gem videos on so they could buy them all up and resell them for a higher price after his video released. This would cause people who actually enjoyed playing games to have to pay more for them while collectors would profit.

Maybe I had just the right amount of liquor in my system when I watched it, but I think the Christmas episode is honestly about middle of the road for the past few years of AVGN, which is really saying a lot about how bad so many episodes are. It's mostly forgettable and bland and weighed down by a skit that is absolutely full of cringe, but it has some surprisingly good jokes. Especially the fact we FINALLY have a joke about AVGN going bald. I thought James was so self-conscious about it he'd screech at Screenwave whenever they'd insert a bald joke.

It really is night and day comparing it with the original Glitch Gremlin episode. Was it REALLY that hard to just do a short skit or two and the rest be just the Glitch Gremlin and the Nerd going WTF with glitches? Just cut the fluff. Especially making so many painfully self-aware jokes about it. Just stop! So much of this barely feels like an AVGN episode, just like all the Screenwave ones that lean too heavily into skits.
The worst part was when he started sucking off Spider-Man 2 as a great game. What the fuck? That shit deserves to be ON AVGN to be mocked, if anything.
You really think "No Time" James has ever actually played Spider-Man 2? AVGN pretty much always praises modern games because the flashy graphics and details since it's part of his character, especially the nowadays version where he's not so much a nerd taking you back to the past but a terminal boomer from the past.

I hope not. Makes me sick to think he'd be nodding along as Spider-Man monologues about gun control or smiling as he sets up two teen fags on a date.

Retro gaming inflation is most noticeable with consoles. I paid 50 USD for a Silver gamecube with one controller about 12ish years ago the same console now sells for 100. N64's which you used to be able to find everywhere used and cheap now go for 80 minimum generally more.

I was actually pretty excited for that last episode because what it was based on (Game Glitches) was pretty funny. Especially the Rocky Part. That said he dragged way too much out with the skits. I am glad he revisited Rocky as a throwback to the best but if that episode. 3/10.

I also never noticed the hairline until he pointed it out. Good self-own.

I remembering trying to watch this jabroni's videos in the past. He isn't metal at all, doesn't appear to be Jesus and certainly doesn't rock.

Thread tax: I still haven't watched that last AVGN video and have no desire to. From what I have heard from others it's not even worth watching to laugh at. Time to hang up the hairpiece, James. You had a good run for a while but your fancy wine is all turned to vinegar now.

It's better to emulate games anymore or buy the collections for modern consoles/pc, collecting retro games is overpriced, besides the game and consoles themselves are prone to failure. I love playing retro games and it's sad watching scalpers and influencers fuck over the market.

You don't understand. Emulation will never give you the same experience as the real console (Big Ryan fan btw)
He actually makes a fair point here, especially for something like PS2 where differences in floating-point calculation means that PS2 emulation will always be slightly off. It's just that he voices in the dumbest possible way.

Mikes video about the Genesis mini was so dumb, especially since he was positive about the Turbo Graphx mini despite both using emulation

Yes, if you're a young person just beginning in this hobby, just emulate. Much cheaper, almost the same experience.
I'm old and still have the game systems I had as a kid. The stuff I didn't have, like the Turbografx-16, I bought when it was still cheap. I use Everdrives for all these systems because it's easier and I don't need shelves of cartridges taking up space.

Don't pay these scumbags hundreds of dollars for Little Samson.

This. Though I do still kind of regret leaving my nes and my dad's old atari 800xl and a pile of games for both systems to be crushed by an excavator. The atari still worked but the nes and most of the games had been fucked since I was I was a kid because we had a game genie. 90% of the time you'd just get the blinking screen when you turned it on. But, I do still have my genesis, like 3 n64s I somehow acquired over the years, a gba with a broken lcd screen, a gamecube that doesn't stay closed properly, a ps2, a ps1, a broken turbografx that worked when I got it from a friend of my dad's but stopped working after years of sitting in a cupboard.

I haven't played any of them since like the late 2000's maybe early 2010's. I can emulate pretty much every home console up to the ps3/360 era and every handheld console on a device that fits in my pocket and works with any modern controller, in a lot of cases with higher resolution graphics or hacks or mods that improve or fix the game. Even back in the day, as soon as I learned i could play nes and snes games on my computer and play rom hacks and fan translated unreleased games I pretty much packed the two consoles away and never really hooked them up again.

I also don't really get those purists that are obsessed with playing that shit on original hardware on old crts. Honestly, it wasn't that great and as soon as I had any kind of alternative to that I immediately started using it and have never looked back. About the only exception I guess would be arcade games. They really are better played standing at a cabinet with proper controls and do lose something when you play them on a console or a computer.
