I want to believe that Mike plays up his tard tantrums for "haha epic stream compilations rage XDDD" videos, him and James talked about how negative hyperbole was what worked best for them fishing clicks in one of their Monday episodes. Even then how much is exaggerated vs how much he's actually tard raging is impossible to tell, mostly because Mike was, is, and always will be a retard.

Didnt his ex say it wasnt really a show and he acts like that on the reg?

Arin Hanson: I fucking suck at video games and constantly lose my shit

Mike Matei: Hold my rolling rock

The fuck is wrong with Mike? I have NEVER had tantrums like that over games and I've been playing since I was 3 or 4.

Someone on r/thecinemassacretruth said Mike is on medication to control his temper, so if this is him on medication, imagine what he's really like.
Mike is a mongoloid who doens't "get the joke", i.e. Mincecraft with Gadget and his Elmos movie review. He's out of touch and still thinks Le Angry Gamer shit is the in thing right now, and intentionally hamming it up for the camera under the impression shit like this is still what's considered funny.

This fucking thread lmao :story:

r/TheCinemassacreTruth is shitposts most of the time, but when it's right damn it hurts. It really goes to show that James hates his creation and wanted to get involved with the film industry instead of reviewing stuff for a medium he's outgrown. Mike Matei was really the only one apart of Cinemassacre who's an avid gamer, but with him gone the channel is basically as good as dead.

I think this entire thread here sums up the problems with James' content as a whole. It's really fucking long, but it goes in detail about the decline of his glory days. He's not like Spoony who became a complete trainwreck, or Doug Walker who is a shitty businessman. But rather someone who loved films and games but slowly lost interest towards them as time went on.

The worst part is that Justin Silverman announced like 16 episodes in 2021 which is like 2 1/2 per month, But at this rate, it's basically just the tired old excuse of James "not having time" or "muh kids". Then again, maybe this is a good thing. As the episodes probably would've gotten worse as they went on.

Every time this thread gets bumped I keep thinking there's a new episode since in the past year or two AVGN returned to a semi-regular schedule for the first time since the movie was being made.

It's probably for the best we don't see an even more soulless AVGN but he's such a part of my youth that I have watch anyway. I guess there's still enough good jokes that I can pretend it's still good after I've downed the equivalent of a six pack of Rolling Rock in booze.

Speaking of Rolling Rock, I've always wondered how many people ended up drinking it because AVGN drank it. I remember he used to have a FAQ on his site where he denied being sponsored or laid by Rolling Rock or any other beer brand (goddamn, if only Rolling Rock or Yeungling sponsored AVGN instead of Raycon and NordVPN). I know most of his fanbase was too young to legally drink (now most of his fanbase is probably early 20s at youngest) but there had to be plenty of people who turned 21 and went out and bought themselves a six pack of Rolling Rock.
Me I did that and it was awful lol

You know, based on what I'm reading above, it sounds like it's not in James's personality to just outright say what the issues are. It's his chill personality where he'd just rather not get into conflict, and even if it served him well in the past so he didn't implode in an outburst of drama like so many other Youtubers over the years, right now it's doing nothing good for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's too afraid to retire the Nerd character or just flat-out retire (which retiring the Nerd basically means), and it's probably because he enjoys being self-employed and doesn't want to get an actual job. Putting out a few videos a year takes a lot less time than a 40/hr week job and still brings in the money. And no matter what he thinks about AVGN, I think he genuinely doesn't want to give the Nerd a shitty sendoff.

More than anything, it sounds like he'd do best with just some concrete goals (and it probably goes for his entire life I'm just guessing). I'm sure Screenwave are trying to help him in whatever way they can, but if he can't meet the goals Screenwave is setting then he needs to figure out something that does work for him.

Eh, he may be reaching those goals as-is. He doesn't seem to be doing badly with the channel at all, so his minimal effort isn't really harming it. He's got parenting shit to focus on, and it seems like a lot of his passion projects may be a little more personal in nature - or simply not the kind of things that would catch fire in the way the AVGN did. All the wandering and aimlessness that longtime watchers are picking up on doesn't yet seem to be a problem, so there's not much incentive for them to reinvent the formula - even if it would be nice.
