r/TheCinemassacreTruth is shitposts most of the time, but when it's right damn it hurts. It really goes to show that James hates his creation and wanted to get involved with the film industry instead of reviewing stuff for a medium he's outgrown. Mike Matei was really the only one apart of Cinemassacre who's an avid gamer, but with him gone the channel is basically as good as dead.

I think this entire thread here sums up the problems with James' content as a whole. It's really fucking long, but it goes in detail about the decline of his glory days. He's not like Spoony who became a complete trainwreck, or Doug Walker who is a shitty businessman. But rather someone who loved films and games but slowly lost interest towards them as time went on.

The worst part is that Justin Silverman announced like 16 episodes in 2021 which is like 2 1/2 per month, But at this rate, it's basically just the tired old excuse of James "not having time" or "muh kids". Then again, maybe this is a good thing. As the episodes probably would've gotten worse as they went on.

When you see how the sausage is made it kill the sense of wonder and awe in movie making and gaming.

You know, based on what I'm reading above, it sounds like it's not in James's personality to just outright say what the issues are. It's his chill personality where he'd just rather not get into conflict, and even if it served him well in the past so he didn't implode in an outburst of drama like so many other Youtubers over the years, right now it's doing nothing good for him.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's too afraid to retire the Nerd character or just flat-out retire (which retiring the Nerd basically means), and it's probably because he enjoys being self-employed and doesn't want to get an actual job. Putting out a few videos a year takes a lot less time than a 40/hr week job and still brings in the money. And no matter what he thinks about AVGN, I think he genuinely doesn't want to give the Nerd a shitty sendoff.

More than anything, it sounds like he'd do best with just some concrete goals (and it probably goes for his entire life I'm just guessing). I'm sure Screenwave are trying to help him in whatever way they can, but if he can't meet the goals Screenwave is setting then he needs to figure out something that does work for him.

Eh, he may be reaching those goals as-is. He doesn't seem to be doing badly with the channel at all, so his minimal effort isn't really harming it. He's got parenting shit to focus on, and it seems like a lot of his passion projects may be a little more personal in nature - or simply not the kind of things that would catch fire in the way the AVGN did. All the wandering and aimlessness that longtime watchers are picking up on doesn't yet seem to be a problem, so there's not much incentive for them to reinvent the formula - even if it would be nice.
As much as I'd love for him to somehow go back to 2009-era gold, I don't begrudge him for treating his job as exactly that. Countless of these people have severe mental breakdowns for one reason or another and end up burning out and fucking off. If this is the route he needs to go to keep making his money and not spin off into a psychotic tantrum fine by me.

Apparently James is starting his own band at 40 and it's probably going to be a clusterfuck.

The dude even pulled an Oreo Antwiler and made an entire account dedicated to roleplaying as his shitty musician persona as well, like James, you're middle aged and instead of spending time with your kids or god forbid actually making decent content. You spend your time and effort into a band that's probably going to become inactive after releasing a couple or so songs.

Mike Matei is on the fast track to becoming a legitimate DSP competitor. Apparently, he tried to play the new Ghosts n Goblins Resurrection game that came out for the switch (it’s OK) and chimped out hard because the game’s menu had more than difficulty, lives, and sound select options; went straight to the SNES release.

>Mike might get his own thread if he keeps turbosperging

That'd be great if only because Mike can at least be baited into doing stupid shit like the time he allegedly tried to rally AVGN fans against Irate Gamer years ago.

"So, there's this guy called 'darksydephil' that's been ripping off my act. Since he has an army of whales, he's been totally getting away with it. How should we deal with this fucking bum?"

Just the other day I was watching him and he said, "I'll play Goldeneye again when people stop asking about it." in a voice dripping with condescension. Not 5 minutes later someone asked him his opinion on the KFC console and he said (paraphrased), "See I already gave my opinion about that on my streams, why aren't you turning up to my streams, man?" What a spastic.

Is ErinPlays Mike's girlfriend? I'd be more likely to believe that she's his tard wrangler at this point.

Mike was always a sped.
She is.

on that note, according to the truth subreddit (will update with links later), it is also alleged that the infamous dick picture Mike willingly posted on the Cinemassacre Tumblr was found without edit on some gay (?) guy’s Twitter account

I can see why he's doing it since he genuinely wants to do music and theoretically it could be good promotion for the band. A lot of bands and musicians will have a nice LARP going for their social media. Problem is that people are only going to listen to Rex Viper for two reasons. Either because it's really good or it's because the band happens to have the Angry Video Game Nerd in it. And let's be honest, if it was really good and they had decent promotion then word of mouth would already be spreading about how good it is. The only reason anyone has heard about this band is because of the AVGN connection.

As long as James is passionate about this band thing, I'm fine if the content is good.

Though part of me fears that it will be a "Demo Reel" scenario all over.
They made a song a couple months ago. Tell me, if you think it might be a "Demo Reel" scenario from it? Off topic: did anyone watch the whole Demo Reel series, or did everyone stop at the infamous pilot?

Is there any more Rex Viper stuff? The singer has a good voice even if his range is a little limited. The rest of the band and the song itself I think is just generic "neo-AOR" or "melodic rock" or whatever the fuck that genre is called (it's mostly European rock bands who worship 80s shit like Journey, Europe, etc). Considering that genre is centered around worship of what 80s rock bands did (aside from the ones which are basically power metal), it's really hard to stand out, and Rex Viper only does because they put "Hadouken" in a song title and have James Rolfe on guitar. It's very gimmicky, but it's still decent. Even if their album will probably be full of filler just like Journey and every other band of this genre.

Since it doesn't really stand out, the only way anyone will ever hear of this is because of the AVGN connection, and as much as James doesn't want it, the only way he'll get anywhere is if the band becomes "AVGN The Band". I mean they already have lyrics about classic vidya, might as well go all the way.

This is it so far, but they are coming out with a new song on Friday.

I did watch, or try to watch, 2 or more episodes of Demo Reel. It never got better.. There was one gag in one episode that kind of worked where Doug was being held hostage and he appears to be comatose on a bed while his kidnappers watch tv. That was it.

This does open the door to James doing a collab with Anthony Cumia's brother.
