East Asians are generally less hairy and when they grow beards, they tend to be thinner. It seems to be genetic since full-blooded Amerindians have the same problem. Traditionally beards were fashionable because of Confucian beliefs about not cutting one's hair (or nails), but I think that in more recent history beards have been associated with foreign conquerors like the Mongols, Turks and Europeans.
been wondering this myself. james is insanely cowish, to the point where he's known to the general internet. why this thread is so dead is beyond me
