That arc has gone uninterrupted for the last two years, minimum. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing whether wife leaving will even matter to James. I have reasons to suspect he was only looking for a wife, so that his mother would stop berating him about it. And when wife is gone, mother will most certainly try to pressure her into coming back. After all, a divorced woman with a child is disgraceful - unlike her Confucian college-educated son from a noble family (yes, she really believes that, if you didn't know). James is not really in any hurry to get a job. But what about when his mother passes from old age? He'll probably end up on the streets. Right now, he's not worried about that. He'll be pampered and won't have to change anything about his lifestyle.
