So this may be a little OT, but I gotta give Chris some credit here.
In high school we had a similar assignment, pick a country involved in WW2 and write about their post war experience. I chose Germany because that'd be the easiest since the US wasn't allowed. There was this massive weeaboo and she chose Japan and wrote about anime and how awesome it is now.

So after I read this my first honest thought was, "at least he didn't weeb it up."

Because he totally could have.

And he didn't.

But he could have.

Had he met Megan at this point? That's when he went much more into a weeaboo state, after all.

This was years before he met Megan. He met Megan when he moved back to Ruckersville and started to attend Pokemon TCG League at The Game Place. At this point he was getting his Pokemon card fix at Toys-R-Us and Books-a-Million.

I always thought Spanish was the unofficial second language of the United States

It pretty much is, but in Chris's life the most Spanish he'll potentially come across are some Hispanic people at McDonald's or Best Buy. There's absolutely no need for Chris to speak Spanish in his given lifestyle.

My reading of the new CWCism, "guns, insults, and...yuck!" is that he was seriously grossed out by the graphic illustrations of war that he was exposed to. One of his sources for this paper is basically a collection of Associated Press wartime photos. I think they left an impression and this is how he expressed his revulsion. I think this assignment and others like it might shed some light on his blanket condemnation of men as "causing wars and such." Of course the misandry was already there, but his exposure to such horrendous prickly-wicklies could have provided him with this particular accusation.

In addition, Chris has always been extremely reticent about discussing current affairs and political conflict. Even in this early paper, he imposes onto his subjects the conviction that war is "unwinnable" and "nasty," and that both sides were "happy" when it ended. Here we have the possible origins of Chris's self-description as politically "middle of the road" or "neutral." Marvin's favorite description of Chris is that he's a "pussy;" we see here that it extends into macropolitics.

Leaks like these make me depressed that Chris has largely retreated from creating original content. I would love for him to create a series of comics or animations centered around his childlike understanding of modern history. Imagine him reading these essays accompanied by illustrations in his signature bad style. Can we coax him into making these? I would pay for it.

except he wouldn't do anything like that. If Chris made any new comics they'd be about himself, the trolls, Megan, the tribulations of tomgirlism, and getting banned from places for totally not shoplifting because he has a receipt.

you know... really important shit.

(And to think, my parents gave me grief for including my confirmation name on my high school diploma! Even though technically it does count as being a part of one's name)

Well the argument is that it's not worth raging over, I for one come here for the laughs. It's not about 'excusing' what he does, it's about having the perspective to be able to laugh at what Chris does and not take it seriously or personally.

I think what annoys me is first, for all his bragging about being on the honor roll, this is the kind of shit he turned in? (The only thing I can think of is that he managed to squeak by with a B average his last semester) And it also shows just what a disservice his parents did by insisting on mainstreaming him. It's really despressing, you know? Plus, unless his teachers made him do said essay over again, it shows a very, very frightening example of what this school must be like.

Besides, a fourth-grader would know better than to put "and yuck!" in a school assignment like this! I think the closest I ever came to that comment was during an oral report on Slovakia in 10th grade world history. I explained that the country was basically failing at the time (mostly due to the fall of communism, and the split with the Czech Republic, I believe) and my teacher asked me why that was, and I said, "well, my country sucks." Then everyone laughed, (including said teacher, who was a total smartass, so I knew I could get away with it), and went on to give the actual reasons. A joke during an oral presentation is one thing -- but I certainly didn't write it in my paper!

It's just that what really makes me mad is that between Borb and the school, they really failed Chris, and it totally disgusts me.

What the hell did he make that was actually original?

If I had to do something like this, I would go for Korea, as it's the most interesting.

Considering Chris' current lifestyle is there much of a need for Chris to speak ANY language? I guess so he can say "large number ___" to the person working the counter at McDonald's but... Besides that?

He needs English to beg for legos.
