Any good vids summing up his recent antics? I forgot about this idiot for years.
His series is very long, and his content isn't for everyone, but Natural Hypertrophy has done a series on our boy Hemmingway which covers a lot of the lesser known ments, and some of the newer stuff

Edit: There's little to really know in the last few years. He's walked back all the fake merc stuff, he lives in a new house, his roommate/"partner" is on trial for murdering her ex, and mooncookie was recently arrested for meth posession. His videos are really, really dull nowadays, same shit lifts, no progress. He spams memes on his facebook account, and claims that Facebook employ him to repost shitty iFunny-tier memes. He also got banned from competing in Texas, I don't know the full story, but I'm assuming its a mix of trolling and the fake merc stuff, he may have been banned from competing nationwide, too, I can't remember for sure

So just a long, slow, sad slide into irrelevance? Sounds about right.

A Les Paul isn't a particularly good guitar for a beginner. They're heavy, have thick necks and the short scale length and subsequent closer-together frets give you much less room for error, especially if you have big fingers. Strats are easier to play, in general, they're cheaper than Gibsons and frankly Gibson's QC is so bad there's a good chance that if you buy a new one out of the factory it stands a good chance of having defects that make owning it a misery. So I think the change does make sense.

But even the Strat is still excessive, price-wise, if you're a beginner. You could buy a Mexican-made Strat instead, and it's 90% of the guitar a USA Strat is at a third of the price. In other words, this is a classic mid-life-crisis purchase. The Les Paul doubly so, it's a status symbol more than a practical instrument, especially given it is grossly overpriced and often badly-made if it was made after about 2005. It's like buying a Porsche 911, you need to be a really experienced driver of performance cars to get it to perform close to its capabilities, the engine is in the wrong place which makes it easy to spin if you don't know what you're doing. It's not a car for people who have just passed their tests and are going to need to learn how to drive solo in traffic before they blast around a racetrack.
No major disagreements, unless we want to get deep into guitarspergery of Gibson QC (I think it's mostly fine, although I'm not heavily invested in them as a company). A Gibson-style is fine for a beginner, especially the smaller fingered and the new Epiphones with the revised headstock are pretty nice for the money.

There was a thread on the old ProSoundWeb forum where one of the regulars had an exhaustive tutorial on how to record distorted electric guitar - really funny Jersey guy. The best piece of general advice he gave was: pick your weapon and go to war.

If he buys A Gibson custom shop, practices every day, learns his shit, actually does a thing? Awesome, it wasn't wasted. Not ideal or likely, but whatever. If he buys a Squier Bullet tele, bottom of the barrel, and it sits in its shitty gig bag? A waste.

Instruments are just tools. And in this case, the musician is also a fucking tool and no purchase will be justified.

How many klon clones do you think he'll go through before "realizing nothing beats the real thing?"

JASON BLAHA SHUTS DOWN STREAM IN PANIC.

Looks like you called it. I'll work on archiving this later once I'm done consuming the ments.
NH is a good content creator, he gets a lot of criticism from the juiceheads for being holier than thou about being natty, and his content is painfully long-winded, tho.

He clearly knows his shit when it comes to training, and he gives all of his programs away for free

I found him (And Blaha) through his Fake Merc Character Study. I really enjoy him as a personality and find him to be pretty brutal and funny.

I agree, I just think his content is too long for some, which puts people off. For example he has like 10+ hours worth of content explaining his philosophy of rep ranges
