Animals in pet stores are treated like any good. If they aren't selling they gotta clear out stock, if they are selling they'll produce more. The whole thing is unethical, the winning move is not playing. Buying ferrets to save them from euthanasia might feel good but they'll breed 2 unwanted ferrets to replace every unwanted ferret you save.
Not only that, but by buying animals from pet stores, he is directly funding the highly unethical pet trade. Nothing like a high profile so-called ferret rescue using funds to incentivize the morally corrupt to breed and mistreat more ferrets!

So the furry smash bros that he work on, is doing an event for the ferret charity that he runs.
Yeah, I came right to the thread after seeing this on Steam and skimmed to see if anyone had seen or been discussing it.
The moment I read "Snail's House Ferret Rescue" I knew it was Maldy's, not bc I knew the name of the rescue, but bc I knew he was involved in publishing.

Here's the announcement on Steam for Rivals 2.
Shame what's happened with this game. The first was truly Great. I wonder how Dan Fornace (dev/creator of RoA) got involved with Maldavius Fagtree in the first place... Maybe it was just through the other partner Ludwig? who's a smash guy, or did he have rapport with Maldy as well, I don't know
It legit smells like Maldy is using Rivals of Aether 2 to funnel money via "fundraising" to himself. This smells like bullshit

25% of profits from Pirate Maypul bundle [...] will be donated to the rescue.

Is it even legel to call it donations if it goes to a for-profit?

Sure its not legal for him to book as donations instead of a 25% cut of profits that he will have to pay taxes for, right?
But the idiots "donating" will never see the books, so they think they can word it whatever.
Maybe who ever does legal at offbrand doesn't even know about this.

Im guessing through Ludwig since Jason and Ludwig own Offbrand Games, the company that published Rival Of Aether 2. If you read through the comments on stream and the game reddit page, alot of people are questioning why Dan is working with Jason in the first place.

Ludwig has done Mald so many favours that I have to imagine there's some kind of connection between ludwig and mald. He and his girlfriend(that cinderella streamer?) boosted mald at the streamer awards, where he won "best software development stream" over dougdoug and vedal, lined up with his rise to twitch prominence and fame(this was only 3 months after his "youtube shorts" explosion, so for most of the year, dougdoug, vedal and codemiko had x10 Mald's viewership, making it a quantitatively fishy win). And then of course, mald joins ludwig's board at his company AND wins another streamer awards over perrykaryal and rdcworld. I know you guys on here don't care about the streamer awards but it's still alot of exposure for the winners and nominees, and pirate undeservedly won twice despite having a standard gaming stream with very little software development, especially compared to the other nominees. It's like ludwig has given Mald affirmative action tokens his entire career.

I can only imagine it's some kind of votebuying mr nepobaby is doing here. I don't watch ludwig's content ever but I every shred of credibility ludwig had in my view is gone after i found out who piratesoftware was.

Also it's interesting that mald was only winning against people who didn't care about the streamer awards, I can only imagine if he beat another big ego there would've been more of a fuss around his fraudulent streams and career.

That's what i'm curious about, generally donations are to charities and non-profits and non-profits have to file public revenue and funding data so you can easily see how much was raised and where the money is going to. It's how karl jobst and mutahar caught the completionist(jirard khalil) and the khalil family.

Surely if he keeps asking for more donations even some of his fans would wisen up and ask for records of the money, and that mald isn't just another completionist.

Wasn't RoA's original selling point having really good modding support?
From the FAQ page 🄰:
Will it support mods / Steam Workshop like Rivals of Aether does?
We’re not prioritizing mod support during current development. It’s hard enough to make a game in the first place. We love seeing the creativity from a community with modding, but any mod support would come far after launch.
They could've said "Adding Steam Workshop support is an extremely complex task that our team currently does not have the resources for," but "It's hard enough to make a game in the first place" has Mald's stench all over it

It's the attitude of people working on forever-EA titles.

As far as looking it up I'm pretty certain it's Illegal to be a for-profit entity that labels any payment towards you as donations. You are either a charity because you are registered as such or you're for-profit, there is no such thing as "equivalent to a charity". If Maldiferous Frogtree wants people to believe that then he should just not be a lazy fuck and register as a charity or close it down after rehoming the ferrets. He's egotistical and is used to coasting on other people's success more than making his own so he's completely unlikely to do this even if it would essentially prevent him from catching a shitstorm worse than anything he's encountered.

In the USA Charity Fraud nets you up to 20 years in prison. If you're reading this Jason, Charity Fraud is what you do when you refuse to register as a Charity and yet you advertise yourself as one to solicit donations, which you are absolutely doing. It doesn't fucking matter what you say, this is (I'm pretty sure) the legality of it, and if Khronos was half the lawyer that he thought he was, he'd have told you as much long before now which calls into question just how much of a real lawyer he is. My guess is: Not even a little bit.
If Ludwig is provably aware of the charity fraud taking place, he could see jail time as well depending on how much he knows, how much he's helping the fraud take place all the way up to not helping, but just being a 2nd party in committing what is a serious crime.

The retard is willingly and openly commiting it and this would ruin Ludwig if he knew it wasn't registered as a charity. A prison arc is in the possibility for both of them.

@Mario Cerame do you have any insight into this area of legality? Am I offbase?

Chiming in to agree with this.

Mald is actively engaging in Charity Fraud at this point. 100% he needs to be reported to the IRS and the Washington Department of Revenue.
They can determine for sure what is going on.

Extremely suspicious that he continually brings up "I never wanted to make this a charity due to the perception that I would be passing money from my right pocket to my left pocket and getting some kind of tax break which isn't the intention."

I hear this shit all the time in my line of work. The people who say this shit get audited and end up owing thousands upon thousands in back taxes, penalties, and interest. This is someone who is using an LLC as their personal piggy bank. He is not taking out payroll taxes, because on the books he probably doesn't even have "employees."

"Snail House" is under the umbrella of his "Pirate Software" business, collecting 1099 revenue from Twitch. If he is paying taxes properly on that 1099 (massive IF on that one) He is actually paying MORE on taxes, because it would categorize him as "self employed" and he would be subject to additional taxation for that.

He needs to be investigated, if there is not already an open investigation, which there may be.

This is not tax advice, I am not your tax preparer, if you use this post to do something retarded with your taxes is is not my fault, nigger

RoA stayed relevant far beyond it's lifecycle because of the workshop support indeed, however I doubt RoA2 is ever gonna get workshop support since it'd compromise their in-game store. Then again, I can't help but wonder just how much they're making, considering their numbers look dire for a live-service game:
vivaldi_m7ZOCaLWzu.png
The game is fully P2P as far as I know (sans the shop of course), so I guess they just need enough to keep the studio afloat and make models/colors for skins. Now I already wouldn't call this game alive (some reviews mention double digit queue times), but the Switch 2 Smash release will kill this game dead.

Still phoneposting because it's like 2am and I don't feel like crawling out of bed to take any interest in what Maldy is saying

"He rescues ferrets that pet stores are going to KILL" so like... He's buying them as pets? Like it or not they're not exactly at risk once he owns them, unless you consider being owned by Maldy a risk (fair)

Edited to add: I'm sure the devs of Rivals of Aether 2 aren't looking at this and sorely regretting their business relationship with Maldy. It certainly doesn't look unprofessional for him to step in and start arguing with concerned customers who are worried he's misappropriating funds.
Mald said:
Lots of weird comments here about our rescue.

We are not operating it as a 501c3 charity and never claimed we were. It's entirely funded by Ad Revenue from the Twitch stream and this is a partnership we formed for the pirate themed skin. All of the 25% being passed over to the rescue is earmarked for the ferrets entirely. I never wanted to make this a charity due to the perception that I would be passing money from my right pocket to my left pocket and getting some kind of tax break which isn't the intention.

This year we're starting the process of building a facility to house up to 250 animals while our current capacity is 50-60. The rescue also has a staff of two people one of which is full-time and one is part-time. The full-time caretaker is an exotic vet assistant and all of the ferrets get regular medical care, properly cleaned environments, and enrichment activities daily.
We've also partenered with and worked with the Humane Society of the United States previously and raised $155,030 for them to help animals in need nationally. It's very rare that a rescue doesn't have to be a charity but the way I've structured this we can not only continue to do this work but also give back to other rescues and causes at the same time.

Please do not run wild with conspiracies on this as it's extremely damaging to our cause and what we've accomplished with this rescue.

You can learn more about our rescue and what we do here: https://ferrets.live
So...
  • It isn't a non-profit
  • The money goes into his bank account but is earmarked for the ferrets "entirely"
  • He avoided making it a charity because it might look bad
    • But also not making it a non-profit allows him to continue the work (what?) but also give back to other rescues (what?)
  • There are 2 staff, one of which is a part-time exotic vet assistant
    • Conveniently leaves out that this is his pooner gf who also works on his game
    • Is she paid staff? Is it distinct from her "pay" on Heartbound?
  • They're going to build a facility to house up to 250 animals
    • This is hoarding.
  • Don't talk about it because it's damaging to "our cause"
    • Always immune to criticism. Mald never does anything wrong. Everything is exactly as he intended. It's not a charity because he's a good guy. Zero transparency because he's a good guy.
    • Don't talk about it.
This is infuriating. You know he could easily own the haters if it was a separate entity and show that 25% of the revenue is exclusively going to the "rescue", that the ad revenue is only going to the "rescue," that everything is paid for with donor money, that the staff are paid properly, etc. Do any of these ferrets ever get proper homes or do they just live the rest of their lives in this ferret swarm? If the latter then this not a rescue, especially if they're "rescuing" them from pet stores by buying them.

It's probably one of the best looking smash clones on the market but that's really all it has going for it, it's just melee again. Every smash clone is just melee again. Melee players play melee, they don't play NSAB, they don't play Fraymakers, and they certainly don't play Rivals of Aether 2. Rivals of Aether 1 is a testament to that because it survives on having at least some party game functions (namely custom characters because who needs wavedashing when you can play ronald McDonald)

honestly i might be retarded but it looks like money laudnering
Its really more about the lack of accountability with funds.
Charities are legally obligated to provide 990 reports where they publicly disclose how/where all their funds are used.
Having the "rescue" set up under the PirateSoftware LLC means he CAN just pocket that money. There's no checks and balances.

This entire idea of tax fraud by negligence and obfuscates the truth is starting to ramp up.

It's fucking milking season. I defo gonna keep an eye out to check his streams for his new copeing strats, because after seeing the witness and his defense too the the poop gnome.

there fucking zero mentions that's I've seen after following MATI first report on the Roach

That Steam thread is great, people calling him out and it's not his forum so he can't instaban anyone that disagrees.
He's definitely going to ask for them to be banned anyway. One person already has been.

Previously, Mald seethed so much he made a half hour video to try to control the narrative and avoided the primary criticisms entirely. Mald is incredibly thin skinned and it's hilarious.
