He's definitely going to ask for them to be banned anyway. One person already has been.

Previously, Mald seethed so much he made a half hour video to try to control the narrative and avoided the primary criticisms entirely. Mald is incredibly thin skinned and it's hilarious.
"Bash him all you want he can take it."
LMFAO Yeah he sure can. We see him melt down constantly on twitter and have to @ his whole discord over every slight.
There is no fucking way mald would even show up.
He's got a game to finish! Busy! Busy!

Even though CCV laws don't directly apply, the marketing language ("donate") creates a consumer expectation that the money is going to a registered charity. This could lead to: consumer complaints, legal scrutiny from regulators (Washington AG, FTC, IRS), and potential fraud investigations if money is misrepresented.
You put a lot into this and its appreciated. My gut said "this shit is fishy it feels like they're presenting it as a charitable act." And boy it really looks that way.

Im going to die of laughter if bitching about SKG and Roaching dominoes into the taxman coming knocking
he would NOT survive an IRS audit. I very much doubt he is reporting anything accurately.
He probably has a CPA that is a discord member who practices taxes in Uganda.

I need you guys to stop driving each other into hysterics about muh charity fraud using misunderstood google results and plain wrong AI responses. None of you have any idea what you're talking about, especially not the guy with the huge ass ChatGPT text above.

I want to see Mald eat shit, but he's not doing anything legally wrong or even sketchy here.

His ferret stuff is part of his business. He'll write off all ferret related costs as business expenses, and he will declare all donations as taxable income. The IRS will be very happy about this, happier than if he actually ran a charity, because all they care about is getting their cut. They do not give a fuck if you call the payment you receive donations, subs, gifts, juicers, tithes, vbucks, ferretfuckershitcoins or whatever else.

What would be illegal is if Mald was falsely claiming that the donations were tax deductible. He did not. Nothing here is illegal.
He is making money, he is paying taxes on that money, the idiots that "donate" do not get to claim a tax write-off for it.

He could have made his ferret rape dungeon into a charity, but that would've been a lot of bureaucratic overhead just for him to then be unable to freely access the revenue.

He's a piece of shit for hoarding animals, he's a faggot narcissist for making it seem as if this was this grand philanthropic thing, and his fans are braindead simpletons for slobbering it all up.

What Mald is not is in violation of tax law, based on the facts known to us.
I agree, but at the same time a part of me wants to believe in autistic lolcow chaos theory and expect something funny to happen to someone as ego driven as him, even on the slimmest chance

There's always DSP though. The unstoppable force of fucking things up and coming out unscathed.

I'm convinced half the people bashing Maldy in the steam forum are kiwifarmers, we're like the only people who know or care about half of the shit going on.

Never pozload my neghole farmers.
E: I forgot it does that for that phrase.
But don't do it. Don't tip the lolcow.

RoA stayed relevant far beyond it's lifecycle because of the workshop support indeed, however I doubt RoA2 is ever gonna get workshop support since it'd compromise their in-game store. Then again, I can't help but wonder just how much they're making, considering their numbers look dire for a live-service game:

The game is fully P2P as far as I know (sans the shop of course), so I guess they just need enough to keep the studio afloat and make models/colors for skins. Now I already wouldn't call this game alive (some reviews mention double digit queue times), but the Switch 2 Smash release will kill this game dead.

Their business strategy is similar to the DSP business model. Get a couple whales to support the game by buying overpriced skins and act like their "owning" Nintendo by doing so. If the game ending failing, just blame Nintendo like every other smash players/game.

I think he's missing the point, most sane people aren't upset because it isn't a charity, but because Maldy is a shitty person and is hoarding the ferrets
Not much about that is on normietube so I doubt they will do more than this.
I'm surprised Jason hasn't cried (yet) about the mean comments on steam to his discord in usual fashion.

Also some of the steam comments are kinda gayop but so are the gunts so I'll pretend I saw nothing.

EDIT: I'm late.

Someone reposted the insane chatgpt lawbabble literally just copy pasted from the farms :story:

Of all the credible info from the thread someone had to cowtip with a ChatGPT article :lossmanjack:
Could have talked about all the ferrets that have died in Maldy's "sanctuary" from preventable causes or the fact he's buying them from pet stores thus funding the abusive businesses but no, let's do retarded law sperging and lose all credibility instead.

We've got a direct reply to the thread from one of RoA's lead developers:

Mald's attorney makes sure everything is above board, he's an expert in US DMCA and US federal tax law and Washington state tax law.

"Guys, it's not classified as a charity, we're just giving 25% of the earnings to the co-owner of our publisher who promises he'll use it on his personally owned ferrets. You can find out more at ferrets.live."

It's probably one of the best looking smash clones on the market but that's really all it has going for it, it's just melee again. Every smash clone is just melee again. Melee players play melee, they don't play NSAB, they don't play Fraymakers, and they certainly don't play Rivals of Aether 2. Rivals of Aether 1 is a testament to that because it survives on having at least some party game functions (namely custom characters because who needs wavedashing when you can play ronald McDonald)
The real tragedy of Rivals 2, is that it could have been Rivals 1 but 2 instead of "melee again", but they went the "melee again" route.
RoA 1 is a testament because it didn't play exactly like Melee, just took inspiration from it and became something new. What a fucking travesty that Dan took that, and instead of making a sequel to that, made ANOTHER sequel to Melee.
Go play Rivals 1, not even just for the workshop, but for the hyper-aggressive movement focused neutral with no ledge grabbing and free-form combos

Yeah, Etalus's post doesn't even deny this, he's basically just saying "We just personally decided we wanted to donate money to this specific animal rescue"
I don't think people are upset about the possibility of tax exemption there Ety, I think they're upset that your in-game event is funneling money into Maldy's pockets under the guise of donations to ferrets with no way to tell how it's spent.

We've got a direct reply to the thread from one of RoA's lead developers:
Etalus fails to adress that it is not a donation at all, but sharing profit to Jasons LLC. They say they avoided the word charity, but keep calling it a donation.
The point being, that people might buy it under the impression of making an actual donation, that would not have done so otherwise.

Edit: I see Crem caught on to the same thing.
with no way to tell how it's spent.
Maybe he just buys some ferrets from the shop so they make more and some gnomes for the new volunteers.

It reminds me of how people keep trying to make "the ultimate REAL hardcore movement shooter FPS esport" by remaking Quake 3 Arena over and over again, and it fails every time because the pros just keep playing Quake 3 Arena

He just doesn't get it. There is no legal transparency, Mald is a known liar and Mald is co-owner of their publisher, Offbrand Games. Even the mere image of a form of kickback to someone involved in the project using customer money is bad and they seem oblivious to it or are playing dumb.

Donate to a real charity or don't "donate" at all. Very, very few customers are going to see these messages. They'll assume they're donating to an actual charity that isn't incestuously tied to the devs, it's deliberately misleading at this point.

They have investigated themselves and determined they did nothing misleading.
:smug:
Jokes aside, I wasn't expecting them to give this much response to what was mostly gayop. Since Mald is Director of Strategy I wouldn't be surprised if this was his idea of fetishizing Maypul for himself.

It's weird how they act like they just discovered PirateSoftware's ferret rescue as if it was just an idea out of nowhere.

He rescues ferrets that pet stores are going to KILL" so like... He's buying them as pets? Like it or not they're not exactly at risk once he owns them, unless you consider being owned by Maldy a risk (fair)
Malds a fucking hero, it’s much better for a ferret to be raped then it is for it to be killed at the pet store, you sick fuck!
