Jedi: Fallen Order - Metroid: Darksider Souls - Legend of Sekiro.

I remember thinking it was the best star war I'd played in years and the story was the best star wars movie in years so I didn't begrudge them not putting more than a toe into Dark Souls stuff. We were plagued with bad Souls clones (and still kind of are) so the restrained approach that managed to be a slightly more interesting adventure than a purely linear game was more than I was expecting and probably a pragmatic move.
And they're making a sequel, right? It'll probably be less cautious in that sense now so I'm kinda hyped assuming I didn't imagine that.

This game has, without a doubt, the absolute lamest, most half-assed side content/collectibles of any game I've ever played. Apart from a tiny handful of useful upgrades (health/force/lightsaber stuff), every single piece of findable 'loot' in the game is cosmetic junk (palette-swapped skins for your character and ship), and enemies don't drop anything at all except XP. There are no weapons, armor, accessories, or any of the stuff that makes exploration in Dark Souls meaningful.

It's not totally bad if you play it as a linear third-person action game like Uncharted, but there is just no incentive to go off the beaten path unless you are OCD about collecting shit for its own sake.
I thought that was fine since the reason I explore in Dark Souls is to find harder shit to kill and the only somewhat challenging fights in this game were off in an alley somewhere, who cares what it gives you.
Yeah you get a lot of shit in Souls but you don't use 95% of it on a given run anyway (unless you find a more fashionable magic poncho).
They're also pretty brief detours compared to the anus clenching you do in new areas in those games, so whatever.

Obviously fleshing out a lot of systems would have been great but I think that's probably a testament to the game's quality if we wish it was twice as big. I'm just glad it shipped and wasn't shit.

Edit: it's also nuts that I keep seeing it on sale for $5 or whatever, what the fuck is up with that

Jesus Christ, Star War autists really are a special kind of exceptional breed.

Yeah, the teaser trailer came out a little while back. I hope Respawn gets to actually stretch their stuff and it doesn't get reduced to collecting clothes and paintjobs for BD again. It had amazing levels, and there could have been better implemented the Droid Bounty Hunter stuff, but the things it did well like highjacking the AT-AT and the... "battle" with Vader was fucking great.

This thread is for the new game too, or we need a new one?
It's out with negative reviews.
It eats 18GB of VRAM at 1440p or something, it's insanely CPU bound, and in some places an RTX 4090 will run at just 30% utilization, at 4K, maxed settings, worth 40-50 fps, with CPUs like 13900k or 7800X3D.
Also has Denuvo.
Seems even more broken than TLOU on PC, so not buying for sure.
Besides the tech aspects, the game seems quite fun and they made the world larger, but the gameplay seems quite similar to the previous one.

People have reported that the console versions seem to have better performance, so the game seems to be yet another half-assed PC port.

It’s weird that Jedi Fallen Order and Dead Space run fine on pc, but survivor doesn’t. What went on over there?

The consequences of diversity hires and rushed releases

Despite being 13% of th being made by EA I bought it on my Xbox and got through the first couple hours. It's pretty fun so far. Definitely looking forward to playing more.

As soon as the game opened to Cal having a new posse of spunky can-do buds, I knew they were all fucked. My money's also on new jetpack bud who shows Cal the picture of his little girl completely betraying him by the end. The game was far too transparent about wanting the player to empathize with the guy.

Playing on Series X. Game STRUGGLES to hit 60FPS on performance mode. The open world areas are basically 30FPS.

I am enjoying the game, shit performance aside. I liked the first game and am really liking the exploration of this one, even if the rewards are stuff like haircuts. I still like Cal and the returning characters, and I like interacting with the western frontier town. Its making me want to replay KOTOR 2 again though, I want more RPG and roleplaying aspects in my Star Wars.

The idea that a next gen console has performance and graphics mode is fucking stupid. Whatever happened to consoles being plug and play? Now you have to choose between looking good or running fast? So was this gen fucked out of the gate in terms of power?

Yes

Last gen was too. It seems now that the generation doesn't *really* start until the Revision/Pro models are released when it comes to Xbox and Sony.

I'd be pissed if I paid $70 for this and got the games performance issues + Denuvo.
i tried to play it when it came out but it's so fundamentally broken and the gaming audience is so unscrupulous and unprincipled that nobody can even get mad about this kind of service anymore. FSR is fucking garbage and for some reason you're seeing it used more than DLSS. i get that nvidia keeps a walled garden approach to DLSS and selectively avails devs to it, but there's no reason that they'd have denied EA/Respawn. the ghosting and visual aberration is insane. none of the in-game visual options affected the frame rate in any way, either, and you can't rebind controls (lmao). i decided to save my $75 and watch a longplay on youtube. the video i chose was recorded on PS5.

and it still had blatant frame drops all over the place, and ghosting, courtesy of aforementioned garbage FSR.

shame too. i kind of liked Fallen Order because these are really just adventure games in a Star Wars setting. i'd have played this but we're going back to everyone rushing games and making mistakes. they obviously rushed this out to beat the next Zelda release in two weeks.

rushing games
"Rushing games" is pretty much the other version of the meme of "why games today are so bad? Must be DLC" (while showing how modern devs look compared to previous ones). A rushed game made sense when tiny dev team got a year to make a new game on their own barely working engine, not when devs had four years (at least) to work on a wildly popular engine with one of the largest budget IPs in the world.

Devs just suck and their managers know gamers are dumb enough to buy barely functioning games for full price.

I heard the new one runs like shit. It has some major problems. They also want $70 for that shit on Steam. I mean the base game and not even the game plus some extra's. Just the game. Did they jack the prices of games up? Last new game I bought was Atomic Heart and it was only $60.
