First of all, a disclaimer:
a lot of you will probably roll your eyes at most things on the list, saying that its not that bad or an exageration. so i want to make two things clear:
- this is what lily thinks it's okay to say. this isn't her saying stupid shit on a stream while being stressed out by a game, these were witten on her official tumblr, most in response to asks that she had no obligation to answer. it's up to you to decide how seriously youre taking each example, but in my opinion, if this stuff is what she's willing to admit to publicly, what she thinks in private must be
much worse
- with any other minority,
she tries. she pays attention to anti-black racism, anti semitism, has criticized things she liked for this kind of stuff. at my knowledge, she hasn't apologized for
anything on this list (deletes are not apologies)
Here is what i noticed, from least convincing to more convincing:
1. The fact that she is so dismissive towards covid. There is no direct relation between this and racism, but a common trend in my country is that dismissive people are often racist towards chinese people. I mean, you ask them how can you be TOO careful towards a disease that killed so many people and they'll respond with something like "well those ch**** are unwashed and unclean and eat dirt, while in MY country we are CLEAN and we WASH OUR HANDS". Anyway this isn't the hardest evidence in the world so let's move on
2. Her dismissal of anime. When i first watched her little witch academia video, i kind of dismissed the whole "anime is about half naked ladies" rant because some anime fans do act like it's an essential part of the medium, but considering that lily has covered my little pony while making videos about the fandom being full of pedophiles, that seems like a double standard. Also, one thing i've noticed is that the theme of the video is that anime is bad with action scenes, nothing to do with sexual content. Just couldn't help yourself eh lily, you HAD to rant about how japanese people are perverts

Calling japanese inspired make up and outfits "nonsensical": Granted, this isn't only japanese, there are other cultures that George Lucas borrows for inspiration, but it's still pretty racist and xenophobic. This wouldn't be so bad but 1. She clearly knows what a geisha looks like, since "Memoirs of a Geisha" is one of her favorite books (see below) and 2. She stopped liking Tangled after she found out that Mother Gother looked jewish so she cares about how other cultures or ethnicities are portrayed on-screen, even if they don't exist in the actual fictional world
4.
Comparing Journey of the West, one of the most important folcloric tales in East Asia, to Dragonball. Yes, DB was inspired by JOTW but implying that both are the same shows a lot of lack of respect, specially when she compared both to "lacerate my gums on the edge of a rusty tin". Gee, it's almost as if she thinks this important asian folk tale is comparable in quality to anime bcz asians are all weeaboos right (see below)?

Recommending Memoirs of a Geisha. How are you going to recomend a book that was so bad, so racist, that one of the people interviewed had to write a book herself to try to counter the damage done to her culture? So a "jewish caricature" is enough to pull support from tangled, but none of this is important enough to you, lily. aight
