Cancel culture isn't real you guys, but bullying people online unitil they break and cave in to your demands is a viable tactic.
I think the point was that Lily called Rowling a TERF and anti-feminist in the same breath. TERF literally means 'trans-exclusionary radical FEMINIST', so it's a contradiction of terms.
That said, what TERF actually means is 'woman that I don't like expressing the wrong opinions'. It's an acronym that probably meant something once, but I've only ever seen it used as a means of silencing uppity women through social shaming-- and
only uppity women, who needs to get in line and know their place.
Of course Rowling describes girls in unflattering terms. Rowling describes
everybody in unflattering terms.
Harry Potter is the viewpoint character and sees himself in unflattering terms. Ron is described in unflattering terms. Both Mrs. AND Mr. Weasley are described in unflattering terms. Umbridge? Sure enough. Snape? He's an oily git. Malfoy? Looks like a goddamn ferret. Rita Skeeter? Skeevy AF. Hagrid? Kind, gentle Hagrid who we're all supposed to love? Described as a big oaf. Mad-Eye Moody? Slughorn? Lupin?
Even Gilderoy Lockhart, who is explicitly meant to be a hearthrob, is described in unflattering terms.
It's a tactic that Rowling uses to humanize her characters. The only regular character who isn't described this way is Dumbledore (who gets generally neutral language), and it winds up kind of setting him apart from the rest of the cast as somebody somehow mystical even in a world where everyone is in some way mystical. And Tom Riddle is described as handsome, which in context of the book is actually a huge red flag that he's evil. (I think she does the same with Barty Crouch Jr. Also evil.)
If Rowling exclusively referred to women this way it would be a red flag, but it's a pretty universal voice within the Harry Potter books.
Say what you will about Rowling (I certainly have) but if you're going to make an argument regarding the books don't be stupid about it.
I mean, tall order given who we're talking about, but
This isn't an Ask-- they can't be this long. This was a submission (you can tell in part because it's tagged; Asks by default aren't and can't be tagged and you have to actively go back and edit the tags in). But Lily has said in the past that she refuses to read Submissions if they're all text and deletes them on sight, because Submission is supposed to be for artwork and nothing else.
So either some fan used the Submission feature that Lily hates and Lily decided to bother reading this one, or Lily sent herself an anonymous submission because she couldn't fit her masturbatory praise in the Ask box.
Also interesting that this 19 year old comes hot off the heels of the other 19 year old, discussing similar age gaps.
Also Lily talking about her 'maternal anxiety'.
Lily.
You're not a woman.
Talking about your 'maternal instincts' and 'maternal anxiety' isn't going to magically make you a woman. You don't know what either of those thing are actually like. You don't know what the actual physical realities of being a woman
are.
And you. N
ever. Will.
