None of us here are even saying it's inherently wrong to be affectionate with your sibling, it's just there's a stark lack of boundaries set between the two that is not normal. Unless the two were severely traumatized and can only seek comfort in each other I find it incredibly unrealistic that the two are that overtly affectionate so as to sleep in the same bed as each other as grown women. It's doubly so that in-universe other characters notice their affection as romantic in nature. I thought we were all about normalizing affectionate siblings without it being weird and you made it weird, great job.

I've said this several times but just the fact neither character has agency outside of each other that bugs me. When I think of other media with well-written siblings typically they're close but still maintain relationships with other people. That's an absurdly easy way to deny the incest, giving a character more people to be close with.

And moreover, it's just not realistic. Even the most close siblings fight over petty nonsense. If we can't even get along with our parents every second of every day, a sibling who eats gross or has shit taste in music or stole your socks is definitely not going to cut it either. Wholesome relationships still clash and argue and bicker about really pointless crap. If you live with someone for so long, inevitably you're going to get annoyed by some of their habits and vice versa. This is why parents warn you that living with your best friend may not be as pleasant as it sounds.

I guess it's easy to sidestep that if you don't give characters flaws that actually hinder them rather than enable them.

No Antagonist - The story is about Niva's self-determination, and there is little in the way of antagonists. Most of the enemies Niva faces are holdovers from Avatar Korra's days or natural disasters. The Red Lotus only exists to be massacred by an angry and grief-stricken Niva to make a point about how they're relics who only persist because the world is too rich and happy to feel threatened by anarchists.

Lily those are antagonists. even if they are a holdover from the past, theyre still antagonists. i fucking get it, you have a compulsory need to make boring stories with no conflict, but having antagonists isnt a bad thing

So has addressed thread complaints via her inbox before, although I attributed that to a well-meaning (but misguided) lurker trying to pass on legitimate criticism just to see how Lily would react.

I didn't have reason to believe she was actually thread lurking and sending herself Asks at the time, but I'm pretty sure that's exactly what she's doing now. You can tell the difference because the prior questions would always be met with her telling people to shut up or drink bleach, whereas with this set she's actually taking quite a lot of time to respond. She would never do that with an organic Ask.

It is a bit of a trauma response to essentially joke about your trauma, and by proxy your abuser, but that functions as masking it. It's a sort of "It wasn't that bad, I'm pretty well-adjusted!" reaction. Even then, the jokes are surface-deep and rarely truly delve into the thing that bothers them, and I don't exactly believe this is a coping mechanism for Lily given how she fully weaponizes her status as a traumatized Native autistic trans woman. She announces she was raped on a livestream in a panicked tone just to get one over on Courtney, and the distress in her voice is real but only because she's losing control of the narrative.

She wants it both ways, to paint Courtney as a stupid Disney channel villain where all of the decisions she made were all of karmic justice so nobody takes her seriously, and also to treat Courtney as some serious threat who would do all of these heinous things to her.

It's a little jarring that for all of Lily's self-victimizing she doesn't actually know how to play the victim.

Framing.
Funnily enough, Catra and Adora are weirdly compelling on a narrative level. They have basically no mental health or ability to form healthy relationships because they're raised in a fascist death cult and trained from childhood to be soldiers first and people second.
So a lot of their interactions make sense under that framework. It makes sense that Catra is emotionally volatile, possessive, completely obsessed with Adora (her only actual friend in the Horde) and takes her departure so personally. It also makes sense that Adora is a attached and unwilling to actually let go of Catra despite how abusive she is because old habits and affections are difficult to get rid of. Especially after so little time spent apart.
But just because something makes sense doesn't mean it's good, because the show doesn't actually do anything with it. Their upbringing isn't touched on nearly as much as their relationship is, and the show goes to extreme lengths to say "These two are bad for each other. Them getting closer isn't something to be celebrated" and then...
It pairs them together in a way that's framed as a happy ending.
What?
The question ends up being why write them that way in the first place? Why set up a very obvious route for the characters and then... go in the exact opposite direction? The fandom jumping on board I get, I've covered before how fandom will forgive anything if the character is visually appealing enough for them and you don't get much more appealing to Tumblr/Twitter gays than "Angy Catgirl."
But the writers are what confuse me.
You don't write a character like Catra and write the unhealthy trauma bond Adora has with her if the abusive nature of the relationship isn't going to be your primary focus. They go as far as to have Adora have flashbacks to Catra's shitty behavior and go "What the fuck has my life been all this time?"
The series winds you up for the logical and obvious conclusion for a Battle of Heroes/Devil May Cry/Decay style final confrontation and then... goes the other way. Even when Catra is 'redeemed' you're just shown more examples as to why these two are just worse when they're around each other.
So it just ends up being confusing. Yeah I get why fandom loves this "Let's watch them get worse" schtick. What I don't get is how a writer sets all of this up, and doesn't end up going "Wait, hang on. I have a better idea" and follow their setup to its obvious conclusion.
Ultimately Adora and Catra ending up together shows someone who was on the path to get better and have a better support system being re-ensnared by a possessive stalker who was negging her right up to the kiss.
And that's... bleak. That's a very bleak outlook on life.

This might kick up a wasp's nest, but what is Utena ABOUT? I've heard people talk about it's themes, but what's the plot?

Utena is about a girl (Utena) who competes in a swordfighting contest unaware of the fact that the prize is a slave bride (Anthy). When she becomes aware of this she decides to pull an Aladdin gambit and win the contest in order to protect her.
If that sounds like a massive hypocrisy to you, that's because it is. The notion of "Princelike Nobility" is little more than self-serving narcissism and you can't become noble by winning a swordfighting competition. Especially when the "prize" is a slave.
That's not me editorializing, that's literally the plot.
The entire game is a trap created by Anthy's brother and Utena's desire to be noble in all of it just makes her a useful idiot. Anthy's brother is just trying to break open a coffin.

Actually no, EXACTLY like that.
Anyway that's the setup and everything else is the execution after that. It's one of those shows where your interpretation of it outside of the immediately obvious (Abuse, Gay, Swordfighting, ect) will depend on your level of political and cultural literacy.
I always interpreted it as being a show about how you can't dismantle oppressive systems with the tools that built it because those systems were designed to anticipate you, and how defining your merit under the terms of abusive patriarchal power structures is a fool's errand.

I think that's a poor comparison because Utena was unaware of the stakes at first, and she has to be filled in on the situation as the series goes on.
In execution she actually rings closer to King Schultz, both in her intentions and the way her ego is ultimately self-sabotaging and directly exploited by the main antagonist.
It's interesting to say the least, but it's also very messy in its execution. But I think I prefer it that way.

I've always had mixed feelings on it. This isn't a change.

I do this because my roommates have stopped checking on me.

We begin with Baldur’s Gate 3, which Lily has to mod in infinite short rests to be comfortable playing.

Lolo starts ranting about adult men that don’t like shows for preschoolers, no one present responds. The fear that she is slowly turning into Lily is compounded by her pointing out that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein has incest in it.

Lily’s male gay awakening was her sixth grade teacher apparently, and the other one was Sora, both from around the same of age of 12 or 13.

Lily is somewhat resentful in this stream, and is constantly saying “Clear coms” to get people to shut up and stay on topic.
When asked “What’s the topic again” she replies “look at your screen” through gritted teeth.

While in an argument about if psychidelics are healthier than alcohol Lily says it’s giving her flashbacks to Courtney taking pcp. Courtney is called a junkie, methhead, and heroin addict throughout this stream. In the past Lily only said Courtney smoked too much weed, this is quite the escalation.

They hate Astarion with a passion cause he's vain and sassy and they'd probably love him if he was a girl.

Lily gets an ask saying “your wife is fucking other guys” and her response is “hot”.

When talking about dating sims, someone in VC admits to playing them, but says proudly "I've got three partners, I don't need digital sex!"

Lily makes fun of the people criticizing them for taking Mikaila out of the youtube profile, Mikay is too drunk to care about any of Lily's drama.

Lily's mom apparently tells her she's too pale all the time, Lily rebuffs this by admitting she isn't full blooded cherokee.

A random heartfelt clip from this anime hits Lily so hard she has to turn her mic off for 4 minutes, leaves drunk Mikay to fill in. The scene where a girl's abusive friends/family try reaching out to her hits a chord with Lily because Courtney reached out over deviantart I guess.

Nothing else happens besides Lily complaining about fansubs/dubs.

All time highlight Mikay is so fucked up during this stream she laughs for damn near a minute at a bad off the cuff joke.
