Youtube shit the bed hard with COPPA, to the point that they had to pay millions of dollars in fines for doing kinda-illegal stuff. And they regulations COPPA is doing(because Youtube has shown they can’t be trusted) can super fuck over a channel in a number of ways, including being fined for saying their channel isn’t for kids but they decide that the things you’re posting (animations, video game stuff, ect) IS for kids, because they’ll claim that only kids watch cartoons or play video games) they’ll fine you a TON. Per instance/video. But there’s also no real way they can go through millions and millions of videos to determine that.
So either it’s just being used as a scare tactic and it’ll only be bad for people actually abusing the system, they’ll go after a few big name YouTubers to make an example out of and leave everyone else alone, or this could easily kill Youtube dead depending on.
But stuff like Happy Tree Friends, people playing Pokémon games and making adult jokes, YTPs and stuff, could all easily be fucked over and fined because the new rules are so vague.
In addition, making your channel “for kids” disables likes/dislikes, comments, takes you out of search results, and drastically reduces the amount of money you’re allowed to make on a video. And YouTube has announced they’re considering deleting channels that don’t bring in enough views/income.
So if someone can create a better YouTube, nows the time to do it.
But again, all the blame is squarely on YouTube for doing illegal shit.
