Jojo Rabbit - A heartwarming story of a boy and his imaginary friend, Hitler

Imagine,if in this movie the kid's imaginary friend would be marx. This would create many controversies .

I hope Hitler wins an Oscar.

He was best Hitler since the Iron Dream and The Producers. One of the top 3 Hitlers of all time.

Doesn’t come out until January in Britfagistan. And even then it’ll probably only be playing at the Cineworld in Buttfucknowhere.

I will say I find it kind of funny that Taika Waititi took a passive aggressive swipe at Todd Phillips for suggesting (rightly) that woke culture is killing comedy, but the woke crowd are already shitting on this film for being “too kind” to Nazis. The film’s still had an overall positive reception, and it’s only a minority saying this, but still, karma’s a bitch.

Just saw it. Loved it. Ignore wokescolds, I found it really delightful, and while there are cartoonish characters, they serve a purpose, including the portrayal of Hitler. He's a 10-year-old's imaginary version of Hitler, and Waititi completely nails what is a deceptively difficult character to both write and portray. All the actors are good, especially the kid.

Very highly recommended.

I'm looking forward to this actually. It's not out yet, but the advertisements pique my interest and the trailer even more so. I will reserve judgment until I see it, but anything that causes the woke crowd to reeee is welcome in my books.

Can you insert it into JJBA?

Jojo Rabbit was put up for Movie Night last Friday. Thank you for your hard work, @Deadwaste.

It was a fun movie, but I quickly forgot about it just like I did with Thor: Ragnarok (sure, that movie was probably the best out of the Thor trilogy, but that's not saying much).
The movie seems to have taken a lot of cues from The Book Thief, except with Rudy and Liesel having swapped protagonist roles. Hitler was easily the best thing about the film, and I wish he continued to have as big a presence in the second half as he did in the first. In my opinion, it would have been smarter to have imaginary Hitler slowly transition from Jojo's goofball idealization into the actual loon throughout the movie to match Jojo's growing disillusionment with the Nazi party, instead of him abruptly going nuts at the very end.

Other characters pull their weight quite well, especially Klezendorf (the Nazi officer) with his no-fucks-given attitude. I enjoy that Elsa (the Jewish fugitive) deliberately trolls Jojo with misconceptions about Jewish people, but their eventual friendship is believable. Even Rebel Wilson gets a good scene where she stuffs a lit grenade in a boy's pants and tells him to go hug an Allied soldier.

The film does ask for you suspend your disbelief in a lot of scenes though. The most obvious being Jojo's supposed grenade scars - he looks fiiiiiiine, nothing to call himself a monster over. It's literally just a bunch of long scratches. Elsa also looks too immaculate for someone who's been hiding within the house's walls. And while Scarlett Johansson makes for a good mother character, her Resistance attitude is a bit too brazen to make me believe she managed to evade the Gestapo up until the point where she actually does end up hanging for treason. Furthermore, Jojo and Elsa continue to stay in that house afterwards without a legal guardian for goodness knows how long. Maybe everyone was too preoccupied with the war to do standard government operations, but I still couldn't help but question it.
In other words, not the kind of movie I would end up raving about for weeks afterwards, but it's good enough to warrant a watch.

Slant magazine says this isn't the film we need, what with 'White Nationalism' back in vogue! because Nazi still exist and this film implies there were some good ones!.

I saw it a few days ago and my first impression was that Scarlett Johansson deserved a best actress nod. The child actors are brilliant but it's the adult actors that really have a sense of what they're trying to do.

When Slant writes about 'Good Nazi's' they mean Sam Rockwell as Captain K, a Jaded combat Veteran who just wants to get back to the front, who instead ends up being a father figure to a bunch of kids. He's gay of course and there's an insane scene at the end where he goes full Elton John and Glams up to fight the Russians and Americans at the same time.

I think Taika Waititi has a subversive instinct, and wasn't really interested in making the film the Woke community wanted.

Scarlett Johansson was wonderful in this.

Jeez, between this, Endgame (the highest grossing film of all time), and Marriage Story (where she gives a fantastic performance), she's had one of the best years of her career.

But yeah, I enjoyed Jojo. Nice, fun, sweet little romp with good jokes and a little bit more heart than I would have expected.

JoJo Rabbit was very good, the performances were good, the satire was very Monty python esque and there were some emotional moments in there too.

Taika Waititi is a good director and he was a good Hitler too.
