Jon Stewart will return to ‘The Daily Show’ as host — just on Mondays

Comedian Jon Stewart is rewinding the clock, returning to “The Daily Show” as a weekly host and executive producing through the 2024 U.S. elections cycle.

Comedy Central on Wednesday said Stewart will host the topical TV show, the perch he ruled for 16 years starting in 1999, every Monday starting Feb. 12. A rotating lineup of show regulars are on tap for the rest of the week.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Over the years, “The Daily Show” — first hosted by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah — has skewered the left and right by making the media a character and playing it absolutely straight, no matter how ridiculous.

Some thoughts on this.

It used to be south park would to the topical comedy but it was once a week.

Then the daily show would do the topical comedy every evening.

The internet fucking killed that, now you can get comedy in real time, from anyone.

Now as for the voice of a generation.....as another poster here put it. When you have a group of people saying we need to grab, lock up, and water board a bunch of goat fuckers, saying "that doesnt seem very nice" is a fucking low bar for moral smugness.

John stewart got is big win on crossfire with tucker and I think tucker learned a few things. Then john took the money and was a spokesman for Obama.

They are bringing him back

fuck have him do a rematch with tucker

His win on Crossfire doesn't look so good in retrospect. Jon Stewart basically did the 'oy vey, what, me subversive? i'm just a gag man!' act and pretended like he didn't know how culturally powerful his show was. His show defined an era and had deep reaching political influence. His performance on Crossfire with Tucker was entirely disingenuous.

Oh boy, I can't wait for more out of context clips and John mugging up the camera like Jim from the office as a substitution for a punchline.

Only to retreat when bias is pointed out going "we are a comedy show not the news" even though they position themselves as the news when convenient.

Guessing after apple bitch slap him for his anti China reporting he had to crawl back to the daily show for relevance.

His show is followed by puppets making phone call!!

He criticized the media for not doing their job and not holding peoples feet to the fire, and it was hurting america.

It was true. Sadly when he had Obama on it was shown to all be an act. mean while tucker got rid of the bow tie

That was before the show really became that though. Stewart was barely 4 years into his like 10 year run and it was pre-obama shit.

His height was the Bush years, imo. At the time he was the go-to political outlet for the bulk of the youth. By the end of Obama's first term his show was already stale. Just how many times can he pull the old jewish man voice and expect laughs? He seemed to rely on that sort of thing heavily. It was sad. He was done well before Obama's term was over.

Yes, during Bushes second term mostly. He was still getting going at around 04.

The worst part is is that they genuinely believe this and its not written as a joke.

Whats funny, is that John libowitz is mostly an empty suit reading off whatever slop his writers hand him, there was a noticeable drop in quality when the older writers started leaving forever ago.

He also doesnt seem to play well with others. He had (I think it was) Martin Short on once. Short went off script, and after the segment ended and the camera panned away John could be seen yelling at Short. Hes an unfunny faggot and from the responses I've seen to this news he was'nt missed.
