Jon Stewart will return to ‘The Daily Show’ as host — just on Mondays

Comedian Jon Stewart is rewinding the clock, returning to “The Daily Show” as a weekly host and executive producing through the 2024 U.S. elections cycle.

Comedy Central on Wednesday said Stewart will host the topical TV show, the perch he ruled for 16 years starting in 1999, every Monday starting Feb. 12. A rotating lineup of show regulars are on tap for the rest of the week.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Over the years, “The Daily Show” — first hosted by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah — has skewered the left and right by making the media a character and playing it absolutely straight, no matter how ridiculous.

His height was the Bush years, imo. At the time he was the go-to political outlet for the bulk of the youth. By the end of Obama's first term his show was already stale. Just how many times can he pull the old jewish man voice and expect laughs? He seemed to rely on that sort of thing heavily. It was sad. He was done well before Obama's term was over.
yep, i was a huge fan of the show at that time. around the time obama got elected i started to tune out. it was way too obvious how much he and his staff loved obama and were giving him an easy pass that they would never dream of with bush.

His win on Crossfire doesn't look so good in retrospect. Jon Stewart basically did the 'oy vey, what, me subversive? i'm just a gag man!' act and pretended like he didn't know how culturally powerful his show was. His show defined an era and had deep reaching political influence. His performance on Crossfire with Tucker was entirely disingenuous.
It was only a "win" because no one cared or paid attention to what was being said.

Jon's "point" was to question why the press wasn't doing their job, which is a valid question, until he couldn't keep his mouth shut. Then a woman in the crowd asked him a question and he answered his own question: that politicians couldn't handle the heat so they go to shows like The Daily Show to be softballed questions while getting popularity.

The Daily Show actually bringing this crusty Jew back into the fold shows how fucked comedy is that no one, not even that affirmative action hire Trevor Noah, could lift the show up. And Stewart isn't even funny anymore. That 'What Is a Woman?" he did sealed the deal.

This is a lie. Much like SNL--and even once-funny The Onion--the vast majority of mainstream media comedy outlets have existed solely to attack the Right. To my knowledge, there hasn't been a single skit on popular mainstream media lampooning Biden's obvious dementia, for example, or going back a few years, Hillary's absolute bitchery. The Daily Show was always the vanguard for Leftist humor. The good news is Stewart has apparently shot his wad comedically. His few solo forays have been ratings disasters.

I watched the show pretty much every night growing up, until he conveniently took a month long vacation when Occupy started and the show didnt cover it at all beyond getting one guy and one girl and mocking the fact random teenagers couldn’t eloquently state the raison detre for the movement.

THEN I found out his kike banker brother was some C-level executive at the NYSE and it all made sense. I still watched Colbert for a while but I dropped TDS after that. The show’s been dead since he left anyway, I’ve never once heard anyone talk about it or the little foreign half breed they imported to talk about our politics.

I guess reruns of The Office, Parks and Rec, and Seinfeld just are not bringing in the kids like it used to...go broke CC.
You can tell a network's intended audience by what commercials play in between the shows. CC's running AIDS survival drugs, antidepressants, and desperate attempts to hype their black guy's show.

I'm really looking forward to the conversation people are gonna have after the Monday ratings are great and the rest of the days suck.

Poor Trevor your DEI ass was never gonna be able to out out laugh a jew.

So who has been hosting since Noah left?

Weekly guest hosts (2023)

On December 6, 2022, Comedy Central announced that until the next iteration of the show, The Daily Show would feature weekly celebrity guest hosts including Al Franken, Wanda Sykes, Leslie Jones, Hasan Minhaj, Sarah Silverman, Chelsea Handler, John Leguizamo, Marlon Wayans, Kal Penn, and D.L. Hughley, as well as both current and former correspondents.
The show returned from hiatus on January 17 with Leslie Jones guest hosting through January 19. Jones was followed by Sykes, Hughley, Handler, and Silverman, each hosting a week through February 16.
Correspondent Dulcé Sloan had her first and last hosting gig on May 1, 2023, when it was cut short by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, bumping originally announced guest hosts Michael Kosta, Charlamagne Tha God, Michelle Wolf, Ronny Chieng, Lewis Black, and Desus Nice.

On August 1, 2023, Variety reported that Minhaj was the primary possibility of a permanent replacement host. A day later, The Wrap reported that Penn was also a top candidate.

On September 27, 2023, following the 148-day strike, Comedy Central announced the show would return on October 16 with guest hosts and would not name a permanent host until 2024.

TBH, that guest host list has more names I recognize than I expected. Though sounds like they got fucked by the writers' strike.

lets be fair here the overton window shifted shit into clown world.

Its easy to laugh at suburban moms worried about rape music.

or make fun of wiggers

fucking soap did a good job mocking homosexual cross dressors

The gold standard is all in the family because the liberal foil of meat head was just too insecure

fox tride their own version of the daily show

The state of public discourse, at least online, is so many lightyears ahead of any kind of milquetoast mid-aughts humor or """""subversion"""" that this old kike could muster up that it would like be comparing a line to a tetrahedron. Any and every smug, snide remark he'll try to throw out into the zeitgeist will be instantly, if not preemptively, BTFO by the most aggressive, ghoulish, and still catchy kind of distortions imaginable. John Stewart will be 'jakked, he will get choked by a fat-assed Sneed while kvetching "I CAN'T BREATHE." He will be executed and emulsified by chuddies. The future is now old man, and you're not gonna be able to smuckle your way through this one.

How humiliating. Having your own show cancelled and now having to come crawling back to your old gig.

I imagine his Monday show will be popular at first due to the novelty of his return but then sink back into obscurity like his own show and the current Daily Show.
