Jon Stewart will return to ‘The Daily Show’ as host — just on Mondays

Comedian Jon Stewart is rewinding the clock, returning to “The Daily Show” as a weekly host and executive producing through the 2024 U.S. elections cycle.

Comedy Central on Wednesday said Stewart will host the topical TV show, the perch he ruled for 16 years starting in 1999, every Monday starting Feb. 12. A rotating lineup of show regulars are on tap for the rest of the week.

“Jon Stewart is the voice of our generation, and we are honored to have him return to Comedy Central’s The Daily Show to help us all make sense of the insanity and division roiling the country as we enter the election season,” Chris McCarthy, president and CEO of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios, said in a statement. “In our age of staggering hypocrisy and performative politics, Jon is the perfect person to puncture the empty rhetoric and provide much-needed clarity with his brilliant wit.”

Over the years, “The Daily Show” — first hosted by Craig Kilborn, then Stewart and Trevor Noah — has skewered the left and right by making the media a character and playing it absolutely straight, no matter how ridiculous.

As always it comes down to the quality of the writers so you’re going to have all kinds of people of color, alphabet, and gender write his material for him. It’ll be garbage, which will be a fitting end to his legacy.

Welp, I remember this jewbag back in the 90's for the syndicated 'comedy' talk show on UHF he had, lasted one season. because he was unfunny. And that was when Clinton was in office.

It wasn't until they mobilized an army of writers (some hacks, some good) and riding on the good will generated by the genuinely funny Craig Kilborn who, incidentally, was relentless in his mockery of John Tesh, even having him on the show once where Tesh took a (quasi-friendly) swing at him. [around South Park's first season!!!]

I'm old enough to remember all this, before faggot hipsters claimed John Stewart was '...omg hilarious'.

The show returned from hiatus on January 17 with Leslie Jones guest hosting through January 19. Jones was followed by Sykes, Hughley, Handler, and Silverman, each hosting a week through February 16.
Jesus Christ, this sounds like dreadful television.

I'm surprised they haven't axed the show. It hasn't been relevant in ages because Trevor Noah is as unfunny as he is uncharismatic.

It has to be the ratings. I could be wrong, and maybe Stewart is just getting too old, but I have a feeling he'll be doing the show again full time soon. I watched the Daily Show when I was younger and I caught it on, but Stewart is getting old and probably wants to do something else.

I only watch TV on work trips. CC entire line up is 22 hours of the office. 1.5 of South Park and then one episode of the daily show.

You may think I'm exaggerating but it's really not that far off.
I decided to check Comedy Central's schedule to see how accurate this is. It's literally just Futurama, South Park, Seinfeld and The Office on endless repeat. And not even mixed up a little bit, just three hour blocks of the exact same show in one go.

Take note that this is during prime time. It's understandable that they'll run old South Park reruns at 3 in the morning, but goddamn, I can remember a time when I couldn't even keep up with everything CC was running. Literally the only thing for the next 3 days that isn't one of the four mentioned shows is a single Jeff Dunham comedy special that I'm pretty sure they're also playing on repeat. Nice to see some things never change, I remember him being egregiously overplayed when I was back in high school.

Jon's going to be surprised. this isn't 2014. And there's enough people on the right who will call him out now. Rufo has sued former daily show writers, as has JK Rowling for much less. The fact Jon even has come back to the show is sad, he thought he'd have a Woody Allen style career and move onto films or tv shows of his own content. now he's on a failing cable network.
Short went off script, and after the segment ended and the camera panned away John could be seen yelling at Short.
i hate jon more than most and i don't believe that for a second. he's had much crazier guests on that said much worse and especially off script things. Unless Short did a bunch o
fox tride their own version of the daily show

sad!

All this tells me is the nigger sucks and they are getting desperate. I remember when this Kike shitbag was on The Daily Show on Comedy Central. It was in the early mid and late 2000's that people said it was where Millennials were getting their news. No matter how much they tried to play it off as a comedy show it was seen by an actual news show by many people under the age of 30. Probably by some of the younger Gen X as well. People that were already in their mid and late 20's in the mid 2000's. I can see this falling flat like trying to bring G4 back. Something no one really needs anymore. You can get shitty smug liberal leftist humor anywhere these days. Especially if you aren't a Boomer and you can use a phone for more than making calls or a computer.

There is just no reason for this The Daily Show to be on the air. Also the initials for the show are TDS. Trump Derangement Syndrome. With it looking increasingly likely that Trump is going to be the GOP nominee and he will most likely win in November they want to bring the comedy Kike back. The alt-right became popular because it used humor. It wasn't just a bunch of humorless boomers sitting around with a stick up their asses. The left might actually be learning something. That you have to make your BS propaganda enjoyable at least.

I was going off of memory of like a 10 year old episode, but for some reason the panning shot and the few minutes leading up to it stuck with me.
I found the clip,

last 10ish seconds but watching the whole vid might help.
Maybe its the angle of the camera, but Johnny boy doesn't look happy, the movements he makes stuck out to me way back when I saw that episode, almost like hes telling him to 'get the fuck out'. Short's response doesn't help but again they might have been goofing off.

Honestly not surprising. TV's been pretty stagnant for years. It's been like 6 years since I've even bothered paying for digital cable / satellite. There was fuck all on then and there's even less on now. Honestly shocked we haven't seen more networks go tits up.

its a sunk cost theory, because of regulations there's a hard cap on the number of channels, so companies are better off making them cheap as shit and just rerun one show forever and make money off the commercials than try to buy another channel once they need it. You'd be surprised how few people you need to actually run a tv channel especially if you don't bother with live sports or other shit. Its like how AOL was still making a billion a year from people paying them for internet useage, at a certain level you're better off feeding off the bucks you get from boomers than shutting down altogther,

This is very true. I was feeling nostalgic a few years back and pirated the past episodes of the daily show from near the start of its airing to when john left.

I didn't watch all of it but bounced around. Early on john was pretty funny making fun or retards and orphans regular open mic material. I also watched a bit of it during the writer strike....

John is a actor. He isn't a writer and I don't believe for most of his career he had much input into his show. How well he will do is entirely based on the writers.

I remember when they used to be mostly Monty Python re-runs, the same like 10 episodes, running much of the time. With little bits of MST3K. Then there was Dr Katz, which was a punishment. From a modest cable craphole they arose, and long ago they have returned to that state, it seems.

How well he will do is entirely based on the writers.
That's what has me rooting for his return. There doesn't seem to be a lot of magic left in those creative wellsprings in Hollywood/NYC/London. As spectator, his entry is a huge gift. So many are going to be mocking his output during this election for many years to come. I am hopeful for a shitshow supreme. I don't see how that can be avoided. I love it.

Apparently he left because of disagreements/censorship by Apple
His fanclub on Hacker News mentioned that he may have left Apple because they censored him too much? That rings false. What exactly could have been different? More acidic anti-white content?

Rachel Maddow is also only on Monday. Her and Stewart are very focused on how bad a Trump second term would be, but they're preaching to the choir with me.
No matter how unfunny he is, he's still a popular brand. Tens of millions will line up behind him no matter what he does, and parrot every one of his opinions. He knows what he's doing. He doesn't have to perform well, he just has to appear.

I'm always a bit shocked to see someone admire Rachel Maddow. My brain cannot comprehend how that is possible. She is so utterly vile, worse than most all others. I can understand love for Jon Stewart, but for Maddow never.
