Artcow Jonathan Wojcik / Bogleech / Scythemantis

I just want to point out the irony in someone who revels in the macabre parts of nature and gross shit tossing his gun in with the "Everything remotely uncomfy is banned" Feelings Police subculture
Just more "rules for thee but not for me" tripe, as per usual from that group. It'd be interesting to see how the Woj tries to minimize cognitive dissonance if/when the tiger he's riding comes after the schlock horror he loves.

Yep, it's bizarre how he adores stories about showing tolerance for off-putting characters but doesn't apply that philosophy to real life.

Jonathan fucking loved Undertale, which is a game all about showing tolerance for others. When the monsters hurt or kill you, you're never supposed to hurt them back, and the king of the monsters is a serial child killer yet you're supposed to forgive him.

In his own story awful hospital the main character is just supposed to tolerate the monsters occasionally killing her, and the other human who fights back against them is vilified.

But when it comes to real life, Jonathan thinks there shouldn't be any tolerance for wrong think. If someone has bad opinions it's okay to punch them even if they haven't actually done anything violent.

In other news all terfs are getting blocked by him, and he promises to never reblog a post he agrees with if it's from one of them. wow so liberal, much tolerance.

Someone left a good comment in the notes

dude you know it’s a fad to call ANYONE you dislike a terf, right? please source your blacklists it’s real easy to fall prey to smear campaigns
I'm curious what counts as a terf to him? To most sjws simply believing there's only two genders makes you a terf. Ironically, with this virtue signaling he only ends up being sexist, as terf is an insult applied almost exclusively towards women because trannies are too afraid to call out men https://terfisaslur.com/

[potential spergness alert]
He manages to write things at times that would make anyone question his sanity, including saying that "if our universe was inside some higher being, that being would have the right to abort us all" and this (I think?) followup (look at the last paragraph)

And this is the guy who slaps his dick to flatworms and everything...

I'm pretty sure he's trying to use this to establish a corollary about how deliberately infecting yourself with parasites is totally cool and moral because, you know, you get to decide what lives in your body now excuse me while I beat my dick to parasite hentai.

Really, despite the fact that Bogleech can put out decent content when he isn't busy virtue-signalling, he's a one-trick pony. He likes gross things. He draws gross things. In fact, he seems to actively struggle with drawing anything that isn't gross. Really, I think his fixation with the disgusting is a coping mechanism: on some level, he sees himself as revolting, and by surrounding himself with other revolting things, he hopes that the only people that will interact with him will be people who like the revolting. It's a shame that the image he projects out into the world when not talking about horror films or parasitology is of a totally unlovable human being.

I think it's extremely odd that he likes fundamentally ugly shit and on the flip side finds things that are often considered cute or beautiful absolutely revolting.
Coming from a bitch who likes spiders, there's being able to see the beauty in the unconventional, and then there's being a crazy person who feels they need to live in a backwards world to justify their interest in the strange.

Once again, I think this has to do with his personal issues. Given that he sees himself as revolting (possibly for being a fucking white male, but I suspect that his self-image issues existed well before he got dragged into the culture-war swamp by that Kraken he calls an SO), in order for him to protect his self-image, it is not enough for him to merely embrace the unconventional: the conventional must be destroyed as well. This is probably for one (or all) of three reasons:

-Envy: John envies people who are more attractive than him, who have interests that are more widely accepted than parasitology and mycology, who are loved in a way he isn't (and honestly, probably never will be). Therefore, he vilifies the targets of his envy in a classic case of sour grapes.
-Jealousy: This is different from envy. Envy is when you see that someone has something you do not and want it for yourself. Jealousy is when you fear that you will lose something you have to someone else. With John, the object of his jealousy is his friends/fans/people in his life. He fears that, despite them being attracted to him for some reason, the "normal" world will tear them away from him. Therefore, he paints convention as a vile, evil thing to try and prevent others from leaving him: this is an extension of the famous "crab-bucket" mindset.
-Trauma: John was almost certainly bullied in school. His soft, flabby body and weird interests triggers the same primal reaction in the average shithead jock that blood does in a Great White Shark. The abuse he faced, while likely undeserved, drove him deeper into his weird little world and imprinted a simple pattern into his mind: popular things hurt me. His hatred of all things conventional is simply his traumatized mind's learned reaction to avoiding a swirly. Sadly, I suspect at his age no amount of therapy could fix this problem (although knowing John, he'll probably say that trying to get mental help is awful and horrible for some reason).

Aw, kinda depressing to find out Bog's got this sort of issues. I stumbled across him a few months back and followed him because he seemed like a harmless eccentric who was heavily into bugs and halloween and some of his art was pretty neat.

Has he just been reigning it in a whole lot in the last couple months? I can't recall seeing much from him ever aside from random shitposting about halloween and monster designs and the periodic "Hey I want to get some pins made, if you guys are interested throw 5$ at this kickstarter" post.

Do you follow him on Tumblr? That's where he vents most of his vitriol.

Yeah. I think something may have happened to pull him out of it in the last couple months. He seems to be avoiding tumblr drama entirely and just posting/talking about cool monster designs in various media. I could definitely see a bit of the depressive mindset shining through in Awful Hospital though.

It would be great if he was an actual lolcow success story. Artists with the sort of singular fixation he has tend to make really awesome stuff if given enough time.

OP came back, thankfully

Not understanding what this "friendship" thing is, vol XXII

Bogleech is a bit of a tragedy IMO. I'm casually acquainted with him, and he's, when it comes to specific people, very kind, polite, and understanding, if a sad. His problem is that he's honestly, in many aspects, still a child. He hates it when people are hurt and wants to help them, but he doesn't understand that people can seriously think things through and come to a different conclusion, or that people can feel sympathy and empathy while still being able to regulate their emotions. As a result, when people disagree with him on politics, he can only think they're being deliberately contrary or are just "evil" people. I'm not sure what much of his childhood was like, but it seems to me that something happened, probably in high school, that left him emotionally stunted. He's more of a patheticow than anything else to me, because he could have a lot more potential if he wasn't such a psychic cripple.

I agree with you - it's legit upsetting seeing him act real nice, then suddenly explode in a bile-spitting rage post about something legit inane.

I think he was homeschooled, and he was recently writing that he is on the spectre, so maybe it's a combo of that?

That sounds likely. It sounds to me he was never really given a model for age-appropriate behavior, and so never learned how to act his age.
