I imagine the reality of these situations is that someone keeps glancing over at Yaniv, trying to be inconspicuous, thinking, "What the fuck is that thing?" And Yaniv, a narcissist, interprets all instances of being looked at as being "checked out."

It reminds me of something I saw a while ago, a study on exhibitionists (flashers), where the men were shown women's faces and asked to interpret the emotion the women were showing. The exhibitionists all showed a tendency to misidentify shocked and disgusted faces as "aroused" or "interested." Whether this was genuine misinterpretation or an excuse the men were making for their activity ("I'm not to blame, I just mistook horror for interest!"), I can't say.

Today I discovered that all of the LGBT issues Princess Jessica has presented to her TOL meetings are either already being tackled at a higher level of government or already have a comprehensive provision within BC. Cases in point

I'm surprised the TOL council isn't telling JY when the latter proposes initiatives that are already in place or pending at a higher level of government. Perhaps the council is too afraid to tell JY, "You know, that's already an existing law or policy" or "That's currently pending at the provincial level" lest JY file some sort of complaint or action against them.

Why should optional conversion therapy be banned? If nobody is forcing, who gives fucks? What if I want to partake in conversion therapy, should I not be allowed? That's some stupid shit.

I was envisioning a situation where people, perhaps teenagers, admitted to being gay, lesbian, or something other than heterosexual and wanting to come to terms with accepting that's who they are instead get taken to a therapist by their parents with the intent to try to force the teens into being straight even though that's not what the teen wants in therapy.

Or, for a more extreme example we're seeing more of and more people advocating for, imagine parents taking their young, pre-pubescent children to a therapist to force strongly encourage the kids to troon out and start HRT before it would be proper (e.g. a Jazz Jennings type of situation).

Otherwise, if someone capable of self-consent freely wishes to try conversion therapy and goes in fully-informed of the potential risks associated with it, I fully agree with you.

The conversion therapy thing is scary. Most kids with gender issues go through puberty and that sorts it out. Puberty is the cure because it matures brain and body. Most of those kids will just end up gay, but fine in their own skins.

Banning anything other than affirmative therapy is a huge deal - it goes against the evidence base, it goes against medical ethics. It profoundly alters the standard of care. I cannot understand why more medics are not up in arms about this - it’s a complete bastardisation of do no harm.

Now if ONLY affirmative therapy is allowed, it will be forbidden to just watch, wait and support. Blockers must be used. And kids who have been on blockers do NOT desist. They do not go through puberty. They do not mature mentally or physically (they also don’t lay down a huge proportion of their adult bone mass and suffer a range of side effects.) Once you’re on blockers it’s a one way trip. Now you’re not a gay girl who struggled a bit with the gender stereotypes society forces on you. You’re a straight boy.

(Of course you’re not, no one can change sex, but the statistics are screwed up ...)

So affirmative therapy is conversion therapy. It’s insanity. I know I’ve said it a hundred times but the lawsuits when these kids hit their thirties and their bodies fail them and they realise they were groomed, sterilised and mutilated to satisfy adult fetishes - it’s going to be epic. And not in a good way.
