Let's face it, trans folks have been freely existing in these spaces for years and there wasn't an issue. Once it became an issue it gave these fuckers the bright idea to infilitrate these spaces.

There was a trans woman I knew many, many years ago. I was a kid, she was a friend of my mother's. There was never an issue because she kept it to herself. She simply was what she was and carried on with shit. Now you've got legit perverts who are absolutely gaming the system. In the past you could be peeing beside a trans woman in the bathroom and you didn't know because no one gave a shit.

It's a fucking mess now, but I think the pearl clutching about a problem that wasn't a problem has lead us to this point.

Pedro Lopez killed over 300 little girls south of the border . He literally led the police to a mass grave with 53 girls' bodies in it in one country. There's a limit on sentencing though, and apparently he had mental health issues so after his prison sentence they gave him parole for a $50 security and released him back into the community. It's hardly a bastion of little girl protecting message senders down there. He's still out there killing little girls I imagine. Interpol wants him for one done in 2002, 4 years after his release.

You're right about the chicken and the egg thing to a degree because a perv is always a perv, but I think it gave the actual pervs the idea to pull this shit when it had been going on for decades with no pervy shit in sight. Hell, it's more likely for a little boy to be molested in a bathroom than it is for a woman to be accosted by an actual trans woman. In fact, I'm not sure that has ever happened. And, I do mean a truly transgender woman, not a perv who thought it seemed like a good idea. You're also right when you say the vast majority of truly trans women work very hard to pass and would NEVER want to be clocked. There was this trans woman at a church I used to go to who had transitioned in the 80's. Even she avoided the public women's restroom. Not because we thought anything bad about her, but she wanted everyone to be comfortable and understood that it could make some folks feel some type of way. She's a lovely person who is very active in her the community and generally loved.

I think that's why these fucks make me so angry. There are people with legitimate feelings regarding transgender and from my experience would absolutely never pull the shit this fucker is pulling. They'd be appalled. They'd call it out.
