He is very type two diabetic, he looks to be insulin dependant (based on all the sharps boxes in his bathroom pictures). He also has pretty severe Acanthosis Nigricans, which causes brown scaly skin in the folds.

My morbid question is what is the reason behind the gross grey colour. He mentioned he was doing silver nitrate treatment, but I really reeaaallly want him to have necrotic tissue.

Although a bit of research revealed this: Repeated applications of silver nitrate may cause a gray or blue-black discoloration of treated skin. This is caused by the silver component of this medicine

He is diabetic and judging from his posting history he does not follow a diabetic diet. I agree that it looks like it might be impacting his wound healing.

Silver nitrate can only go so far. Aside from being incredibly painful, the effects are only temporary in my experience. While it will take away some pain and discomfort, after a few days you will have to apply more.
