Jurassic World

I'm pretty shocked by how much faith people here have that a modern movie studio is going to make a sequel to a beloved movie and not completely shit all of it, it's legacy, and it's fanbase. This time for sure, though, right?
I dunno, after the third one, this would be a step up.

So I just got back from seeing the movie.

It was pretty good. Not amazing, but still, it was fun. I'd say it was about on par with the first film. Although I've seen the original again in 3D and thought it wasn't as great as I thought it was as a little kid, so take that as you will.

A lot of the people in the movie are pretty stupid though. Like the red haired woman commented about how the guy wearing the vintage Jurassic Park t-shirt was in poor taste. This woman does realize she is working at a place which developed from Jurassic Park right? And that they are doing the exact same thing that caused the deaths of those who died in the original movie right? Hypocrite.

Also, Star Lord's line at the end of the movie made me face palm.

"We should stick together... For survival."

Like... It was so bad it's hilarious. You could not pick a cornier pick up line.

Besides that, it was fun seeing all the dinosaurs wreak havoc and fight each other. I also really liked how the raptors turned on the humans because Indominus Rex was part raptor himself and can communicate with them.

One little thing they mentioned though in the movie had me a little intrigued I'll admit. One of the scientists mentioned that none of the dinosaurs were natural, and that they had to use DNA from other things to fill in the gaps. If they had the full DNA from a dead dinosaur, they would probably look very different than how they are now. Which suggests to me that the way the dinosaurs look was intentional. They were made that way for marketing reasons. So that they would be recognizable to those who have seen pictures of what people theorized the dinosaurs looked like based on their remains.

If that were the case though, what was with those pterodactyl dinosaurs with the T-rex heads? Those just look silly and unnatural looking, and seem very unattractive from a marketing stand point.

I'm probably overthinking all this, but that's just how it seems to me.

So yeah, it's definitely worth a watch. If only for the dinosaurs themselves.

I haven't seen the movie yet but
in the original novel there's a scene with Dr. Wu and John Hammond in which Dr. Wu tries to convince Hammond they should replace the park's entire stock of animals with an updated version of their DNA. The new versions would be slower making them not only easier to handle, but appear more realistic to the eventual visitors. Hammond refuses, insisting that nobody wants a domesticated dinosaur while Wu argues that people will want something that meets their expectation (big and slow). Ultimately Hammond puts his foot down, but it sounds a bit like that scene.

One of my friends on Facebook said he saw it with his wife. He remembered when he was 5 and saw the original JP, he screamed and his dad had to carry him out of the theater when Nedry got eaten, LOL.
The dinosaur that eats him is the coolest thing in the movie.

Dilophosaurus FTW!

I feel the same way about JP movies as I do with Star Wars movies. It's made for 10 year olds and people who are nostalgic about being 10 years old again.

I'd give it a 7.5/10

+The Dinos are pretty good
+There is many a nod to the first movie and the book both
+It does not fuck up with the film-canon (Isla Nublar got the Viet Nam treatment in the book but not in the movie.)
+Doctor Wu lives and is the only "grey" character in the movie.

- The plotline was stretched to fit into 2+ hours
-The dialogue was often cheesy and the romance was not needed
-Characters are dumb and/or cringey (rumors say tech guy became a loveshy after the ordeal)

Great movie, exceeded my expectations. My only complaint is that I would of liked to have seen more dinosaurs.

So, it's an alright movie, then. Got it... Still can't beat the classics.

Long rambling post so you may just want to click autistic right no.

Okay so just want to give my problem with this movie. Spoilers it involves the death of a women.

I’m talking about Zara. Now look at her death it’s brutal and actually really horrible. Now here’s a challenge. Name one thing that made you care about the character.

See that’s my problem, her death is the only memorable death in this entire movie. And really that’s kind of terrible for a movie where Jurassic park is now fully operational. That’s wrong for so many reasons. See i hated man of steel because of the metropolis destruction, however for Jurassic world that’s like half of the thing we’re here to see. Look at the kingpin how does he die?

Oh a raptor truly original death for this franchise.

Look at Omar Sy. Now I’ve read what the director seems to really like him. However what really didn’t work is when we were actually told he’d live. Now I’m glad that they don’t want to do the whole Black dude dies first but to be honest could we not be told this BEFORE THE MOVIE COMES OUT.

This movie isn’t really that bad I do like it the effects are decent. But really the setting is kind of a letdown they actually have an interesting idea and they refuse to use it. This should be the nightmare that was averted 20 years ago come to horrifying life. Instead it feels like there to scare to show people dying in what is basically a disaster movie.

The movie is worth it for the ending where the T-Rex and a raptor fight the Indominus Rex, with the giant sea-dino joining in at the end./Spoiler]

Despite my long rambling post. yeah that is pretty cool.

I'm going to take my father to this movie tomorrow. Is the 3D any better than the 2D?
