Karl Jobst / karljobst / FAQ_GOD / simthreat / approachhernow.com - Albino autist, Spergy speed runner, Pickup predator and Bitch of Mitchell

  • 🐕 I am attempting to get the site runnning as fast as possible. If you are experiencing slow page load times, please report it.
I still think Mitchell cheated (with solid evidence not present in any WR run before or since) but Jobst is worse. He could probably still make videos about N64 speedrunning or old PC speedrunning and I'd watch them, but the respect people have for him has overall plummeted this month. One wonders if it would be different if the court went full kangaroo and he won.
Mitchell used MAME in a category where that was banned. No argument, those times are invalid. Doesn't matter if he played it legit in MAME, that's still banned. Mitchell has at least proved himself capable as he has topped his proven MAME scores at in person events.
Jobst is more likely then not to either not upload an apology video, or upload such a terrible one it fully kills his reputation. If he (somehow) beats the odds and makes a good apology, he may be able to move past this whole saga.
Or, you know, if that fails, Jobst can officially Troon out?

QLD considers Good Friday a public holiday. There is a good chance he will bitch out and delay releasing it again vy using that as an excuse.
Something like "I can only work on my totally real apology video during business hours!", but he will only ever mention it in his Trannycord.

Walter is not particularly thrilled with his dox being on Kiwi Farms.

It's not just that an emulator was used on the scores. There's a two-tier scoring system at play for Walter Day. It's that there were slowdown (evidenced by the level loading differently) and savestates involved, unavailable on original hardware therefore banned (for everyone except Mitchell). There was also the different control stick and the fact that Mitchell was able to submit a tape to a live event where everyone else had to show up in person. Still not as bad as defamation though.
I've seen even these claims challenged in a lot of places, so it seems to me like there is some level of plausible deniability. I don't care though, because there are plenty of live videos of him demonstrating his insane skill at both pacman and donkey kong. There is absolutely no question that for at least a few years he was the best single pacman / donkey kong player in the world. OK, maybe he didn't conform to some tournament rules, even if the maximalist claims are granted. Cool bananas. This is very different from Billy being the greatest conman in gaming history.

I haven't read into it but its possible his son or someone pushed him into it for purely financial reasons (at least someone was mentioning his son earlier).
There have been a few celebrities who have acted similarly to sudden internet fame and started spamming lawsuits for shit like this only to learn that they're not worth it and they can be more successful by just riding with it and adopting different tactics.

All things considered Billy didn't get into record setting video gaming for that level of fame (as in he probably wanted fame for the scores but not to be a TV character) and seeing a caricature of himself probably confused the fuck out of him and this level of celebrity is something he just wasn't prepared for. It seems he learned from that lesson though and has honed his ability to be a likeable celebrity (he's extremely lucky that he won this particular lawsuit and the tide changed in his favor though, if Billy had lost I'm not so sure people would be singing his praises like this)
Yeah man I think its just that he's the archetypical Gen X'er par excellence. A lot of people in their late 50s chimp out over stuff like that. Meanwhile Karl Jobst thinks that a man can become a woman. Which worldview is more unhinged?

And that's what it comes down to. Karl Jobst thinks that a man can become a valid woman. But he doesn't think that an emulated run can become a valid world record. Interesting.

I think that's the main problem. Billy is good at the games that he stakes his name on, he's just done some pretty shady and petty things to keep his name on top of them. I'm all for exposing that.
Honestly when the case was presented as, "Billy mad I called him a cheater," I was laughing because everything presented about him for years has been confirmation bias about that. To see that the man sidestepped that and said, "nah bro, I didn't murder anyone by proxy," has legitimately given me a higher level of respect for him.
Sure, he could still be mad about being called a cheater but to buckle down and go straight for the win like he did? That's some good strategy and I have to respect that.

Will it even be an apology video? I'm expecting a bunch of legal ass covering with a small "I'm sorry you feel misled" segment.

Even if it weren't insanely predictable (it is), he's already made it crystal clear that it's going to be what you said it is. Both on public social media and in his Discord hugbox.

At this point, the only thing up in the air is whether or not he's actually going to be retarded enough to appeal and announce it in the video.

Amusingly Karl's Dam :52 was rejected last year on speedrun.com for "Rankings transition". I know speedrun.com isn't the main place for Goldeneye speedruns and I don't think Karl's record is actually disputed but it makes for an ironic screenshot considering Billy's Donkey Kong scores are disputed because the way certain screens transition/load

Forgive the ignorance, but what exactly does it mean to be rejected for "Rankings transition"? I don't see any comments on why it was rejected (after being up for six years, I guess?)

Was Karl's run invalidated on a technicality, or was there something more nefarious going on?
