It was a good early FPS, especially for a console like the N64. I don't know why people still glaze it to no end nowadays, Perfect Dark was a better iteration of the Rare-style FPS and it only got released a year later IIRC. I don't know why speedrunners sperg out over it though.

It might just be the James Bond IP. I have a soft spot for the campaign but I've dumped way more hours into PD on N64 and XBLA, but that team's true magnum opus will always be Time Splitters.
Insofar as a cope, non-apology response goes I actually think he did pretty well (from a P.R. perspective). He may persuade many of his lesser informed and diehard fans to not abandon him (Definitely not a court though, lol).

The crux of his appeal is making "porn" for self-righteous people who want to be indignant and mad at others, and watch them get their comeuppance. Most viewers aren't that invested, but more than enough sincerely were. He built an audience on that, with a gaming aesthetic, told them all he was going to humiliate the biggest cunt in the gaming world, and then failed because he was lying to them the whole time.

I'm also more persuaded that he genuinely believed in his own speedtranny logic of (cheating in a video game >>> implied bullycide). While he's definitely knowingly being disingenuous in instances, it appears less Machiavellian and more juvenile, wishful thinking.
