From what I've read, he took from multiple groups, including the Monophosytes, Gnostics, and Nestorians. He also included some stories from sources we know to be false, like the Infancy Gospel of Thomas, where Jesus creates clay birds and gives them life. Muhammad was illiterate, so he was just going off of information he'd heard circulating at the time.there are some stories and accounts that Muhammad was greatly influenced by either Arian or Monophosyte Christian’s
When Islam was on the rise Most Christians viewed Muhammad as a Christian Heretic that was perverting the Gospel, there are some stories and accounts that Muhammad was greatly influenced by either Arian or Monophosyte Christian’s (I can’t remember), they do claim to follow the God of Abraham but do not recognize Jesus Christ as God. That is their most categorical error and does not make them Christians, but it does make them “Abrahamic”
They cannot be saved because of that, no one is arguing that they are. (except maybe in cases of Invincible ignorance)
Recognizing that is not some Vatican II hippy dippy mumbo jumbo, but the position that the Apostolic churches have always had
Sort of on topic, but this interview of an ex Muslim now Catholic is pretty goodMuch of Islam is derived from Paganism. Allah existed as the high god of Meccans who was the most powerful of all of the Gods and had many children like Zeus in Greek paganism did. Since the rise of Islam Arab-Christians have used the word "Allah" to refer to the one Abrahamic God, but Allah as a separate god existed before he became God.
Likewise, before Islam religion in Arabia was syncretic. Christian/Jewish-Arabs were pagans who believed in all of the pagan gods alongside the one Abrahamic God.
I tend to believe that Giberal was some kind of Demon that took on the face of Gabriel the messenger of God. However, just because Muslims were duped by a demon doesn’t mean that they intend to pray to Satan 5 times a day, they do not know they were tricked yet they are still aiming for the Almighty. From what I've read, he took from multiple groups, including the Monophosytes, Gnostics, and Nestorians. It's just that the more I study Islam and the Quran, the more convinced I am that it's straight from Satan. Even Muhammad himself thought that at first, until he told his wife what happened, and she convinced him it was a message from God. I actually think it's possible that Islam is what St. Paul is referring to in 2 Corinthians chapter 11 when he talks about false prophets preaching a different Jesus and a different Gospel. He also could just be talking about any number of heresies, but Islam seems to be the big one that really took hold and stuck around.
Honestly, I don’t think any convert should be allowed to speak on theology until they are the age of thirty and they have a wife and kids.
The little old Chinese lady that says a rosary every day after mass for world peace and then goes home to prepare food for her grandchildren will probably see the beatific vision then most online Christian debatorsWho is the better Christian?
The man who has memorized the Bible, but sits in his house all day rambling and raving about esoterica or the ignorant man volunteering at the soup kitchen and raising his children to be decent people on religious values he just sees as "common sense".
I would argue that people not seeing the latter man as religious and pious is part of why irrelegion has gained popularity in the west. The face of religion is either grifters or autists who are poor examples.
I see this all the time at my parish especially because we have TLM available. Very few cradle Catholics are out there reading Aquinas or Canon Law. Oddly enough many of them wind up switching to Eastern Orthodox after a few years.
That or they try a different rite, like at a Ukranian or Ruthenian church.I see this all the time at my parish especially because we have TLM available. I was going to say that that sounds so far-fetched, but I've seen people wear a lot of strange things at Mass (once, someone wore a Barak Obama campaign t-shirt, which I would say is pretty scandalous). Also, hot take: I believe that veils are fetishized more often that not.Taylor Marshall said he decided to be almost exclusively TLM-attending because one NO parish had a guy in a Cookie Monster shirt give him the Consecrated Host (I think he mentioned it was on a spoon but I thought that was only a Byzantine Rite/EO thing?) Also regarding Taylor Marshall's rigorism/issues, he recently tweeted that Head Coverings are a requirement for women.
Don't the Satanic Verses that Salman Rushdie talked about reference these pagan gods that Meccans used to worship?Much of Islam is derived from Paganism. God, this was such a good interview. Also highly recommend the Apostate Prophet x Matt Fradd interview if you want to learn more about Islam. I believe both AP and Ismail were Sunnis, so there is some things they used to believe that the Shia don't, but I still highly recommend both interviews.Sort of on topic, but this interview of an ex Muslim now Catholic is pretty good
10000000% accurate.
In my experience, the cradle Catholics who are especially interested in TLM, Aquinas, Canon Law, etc. tended to become interested via converts to Catholicism. Of course, some cradle Catholics were simply always interested in it.I see this all the time at my parish especially because we have TLM available. Very few cradle Catholics are out there reading Aquinas or Canon Law. Oddly enough many of them wind up switching to Eastern Orthodox after a few years.
I cannot speak from personal experience, but I have seen long distance relationships work, but only if the couple has already met either before or during the relationship. My advice would be to continue to pray to God for a sign and also to reflect on if you can see yourself together long term.Does anyone have any ideas of what to do? I've been praying about it a lot.
You either get the family and regularly attend Mass and try to do good deeds, or you end up in a Sam Hyde comment section. Which way will it be, White Man?The little old Chinese lady that says a rosary every day after mass for world peace and then goes home to prepare food for her grandchildren will probably see the beatific vision then most online Christian debators
i think its more of a symbolic thing. "now i am officially an atheist" type of thingIs act of Apostasy in catholic church a somewhat new thing? I know it exists for at least 30 years, but longer than that I do not know.
I officialy (at least according to my country) quit my confession and am without one (tax reasons). I am not believing either, so in my situation, why should I go to extreme lengths and officially get a stamp from the church I do not follow? Its not required by the state, and I am fine without it. I just dont see how it would work. I feel a little as if its the same situation as councilors in army boot camps. Trying to get you to change your opinion and try again, weasel you in.
Well normally with "Folk Catholicism" I try to be charitable and look at the positives.@Local Farmer @Preacher ✝ What's your guys opinions on the whole Santa Muerte shit? I just want to know why the fuck it looks so creepy with the skull face and shit.
You would think an obvious demon like it would try to be more subtle and human in appearance like much of its unholy brethren. Same goes for the rest of the South American pantheons, who all just look extremely demonic and unholy.Well normally with "Folk Catholicism" I try to be charitable and look at the positives.
However santa muerte has been formally condemned by the Catholic Church so I will follow suit.
As for why it looks so creepy, it's a personification of death.
