So what you're saying is, most troons are given more assistance than your average veteran? Vets has access to the VA, but that's pretty shitty compared to free state health care imo. A decent portion of vets don't get any financial assistance as well, if they don't qualify for disability. Maybe it's a stretch for me to say that, but it's pretty infuriating to think all you have to do is say you're "trans" and act the part to get monthly checks and free health care.
Well SSI isn't that easy to get, you need either a permanent illness on a list of very debilitating illnesses (schizophrenia, multiple amputations) or you need an illness which is permanently disabling within the context of your work history (such as a seamstress with rheumatoid arthritis).
Personality disorders - which they all have - aren't disabling unless they have other illnesses like depression, anxiety, and they can't physically push a mop at Walmart or something due to a documented physical illness. With multiple diagnoses it's more likely, but even then that requires attempts to find work.
It's easier in some ways and harder in others to get service-connected disability. SSI and SSDI are boolean - you're either 100% disabled or you're not disabled at all. Service-connected is a range, from 0% to 100% in increments of 10, but you must prove it's related to your time in service.
There's also a pension for disabled veterans who don't qualify for service-connected, but it's only available if you were in for at least 2 years.
There are other things like asset limits for SSI recipients (usually $2000) but those usually only consider bank accounts, investments, and pensions. FYI SSDI is disability insurance, you literally pay into it with your SS taxes. SSI is a handout for poor, the chronically un(der)employed, and those whose work history for 10 years prior to their filing date isn't enough to qualify for SSDI.
Given that most troons lack significant work history they are almost certainly committing benefits fraud. This may be an entertaining thread for KF sleuths to unravel. Things to look for:
* Patreon, PayPal, cryptocurrencies, and assorted e-begging accounts.
* Large numbers of valuable collectables are usually not considered assets.
* Owning multiple homes and vehicles if on SSI and maybe SSDI.
* Demonstrated work for money in amounts in excess of maybe $1200 a month.
* Demonstrated skills in programming, sewing/tailoring, IT/network administration, or whatever.
* Oversharing of benefits amounts.
* Admission that said troon isn't actually disabled.
