I hate to defend Kevin here but I think he is referring to the extremely online tradwife crowd, who by and large have not been pressured into those roles since childhood and are usually rebelling against secular middle class backgrounds. Most are not actually married yet either, they just constantly post memes about traditional marriage and children online like it is a lifestyle brand.

It's kind of the flipside of something like Kevin's fetishization; in both cases it's based on people having no good grasp of life or human experiences outside of the internet and treating societal roles like they are nothing more than an aesthetic.

Have you ever done an family history deep dive? I have, because I have family members who are into that stuff. I found stuff like great-grandmothers dying in childbirth giving birth to their tenth child, and wives having to flee their homes in the middle of the night after their husbands beat them half to death, and having no legal recourse because husbands were just allowed to do that, or at most got a slap on the wrist. If you sit down and talk to most women in their sixties and seventies, you'll find out that child sexual abuse was rampant in families back then as well, it just wasn't talked about. In fact up until the 1980s in the US, father/daughter incest was often blamed by professionals on the wife because she was not putting out for her husband enough, and the husband had no choice but to target the daughter instead.

I am fine with 'traditional gender roles' being countercultural, thanks.

I really don't know what you mean by this. Working outside the home is not 'modern', it has been done by non-middle-class women out of necessity since the industrial revolution at least. Even today most women who work outside the home do it out of economic necessity. Do you think the thirtysomething woman ringing up your purchases at Walmart is there because she wants to have 'a career'? Also, 100 years ago there was an equivalent amount of domestic delegation going on, if not more, just in different areas. Outsourcing of laundry, for example, used to be a thing, and it was much more socially acceptable to hand your children off to whoever could take care of them as soon as you could afford it.

I think you are saying that the tradwife is making a smart choice by staying home with the children after marriage? Possibly, but the point is that they are able to make that choice freely because they are a privileged group LARPing as a non-privileged group. There are over a million nurse's aides working in the US, with average wages of maybe $30,000 a year. They are almost all female.
