Holy shit the tenacity these dudes have to try and convert a damaged mind to their fucked up ideology gives Marshal Applewhite a run for his money.
I agree with the sentiment but two minor quibbles:
1. I've read that Marshall Applewhite didn't really try to convert people, in fact if anybody in Heaven's Gate seemed to be wavering at all he'd kick them out of the cult. This was because he cared more about having a small group of ultra-loyal followers than a large group with less than total devotion. The people who made it to the end of Heaven's Gate seem like they did most of the work convincing themselves. Sorry to sperg about this, I'm just interested in the cult, a lot of their videos are on Youtube for any interested kiwis.
2. In this specific case we're talking about Mode_view, who is notorious for trans-baiting Kevin and his Twitter cabal. For any kiwis who don't know, Mode is a fat dude named Ryan who is lost in an endless quest for attention, positive or negative, from twitter troons for some reason. One of his favorite things to do is endlessly vacillate about whether he might be trans so he can get those sweet sweet replies telling him he is. The next part of the cycle is histrionic self-flagellating about how horrible he feels for
deceiving his wonderful trans friends so cruelly because he is definitely
not trans. Then after the high from that wears off he starts chumming the waters again with little posts like this; apparently we've caught him in the part of the cycle where he's "80% sure" he's trans. Eventually he changes his Twitter handle and pronouns to "Reyna" and "she/her" for like a week. Then the self-hating denials of everything, etc etc ad nauseum.
But no, I agree with the spirit of the post: it's creepy and cult-like how hard twitter troons try to "crack eggs", absolutely true. Just had to sperg about Applewhite and Mode specifically
