King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

I hope you're right, but my optimism died with Johnny Hardwick.
The only somewhat saving grace is Johnny Hardwick recording a few lines before his death, but I don't know if the show will ever be as good considering Hardwick's sudden, tragic death

They should just use AI to replace Johnny Hardwick.
You can't replace Dale with The Beast!

I'm open to the idea. I'd rather that than killing the character off.
Ok there's one way it would work:

The entire block suspects dale has been replaced by a secret government robot (because he's acting really weird - like super obviously weird for Dale) but this time it's Nancy who doesn't believe it and think her husband has never been better.

Am I the only one who feels like the character who would have the most likelyhood of canonically dying is Dale? He was a repeated chain smoker on top of all the dangerous things he exposes himself to on a daily basis.

Though actually it would make sense that Dale would live in spite of everything as a twist of irony. I could imagine in the new series old Joseph looks more muscular like John Redcorn and wheels Dale in a wheelchair with an oxygen tank around. While he carries on the family exterminator business.

I just want to make a plug if you’re a fan of King of the Hill you need to watch “Mike Judge Presents: Tales From The Tour Bus.” It is a really enjoyable cartoon going over Country Music (Season 1) and Funk (Season 2).

Mike has a writing credit in each episode and his narration is great. His delivery is very Hank Hill esque, I wish I could explain it better but it’s not Hank’s punchlines but it’s more just how Hank would explain something and it was just funny because Mike Judge (the narrator) acts like he doesn’t want to tell you how Jerry Lee Lewis abused drugs and married his underage cousin. Although obviously the real Mike Judge does because it is one helluva stranger than fiction story.

So yeah please watch it. In fact download the series because it needs to be preserved because it’s literally impossible to legally watch the full series due to licensing rights. As of writing DailyMotion has all the episodes uploaded so you have little reason to not give it a chance.

In the Mike Judge TV sphere King of the Hill is the goat, then B&B, and Tour Bus is so sadly unappreciated. We don’t talk about The Goode Family.

It’s Mike’s real voice. He’s presenting it as a “documentary”, it’s animated to show recreations and allude to the truth that you’re listening to old men tell their best tall tales so embellishment is possible.
What I mean is that in Mike’s dialog his rhetoric is much like Hank’s. It’s very deadpan. The narrator Mike Judge talks like he’s celebrating the wonderful music and careers of these artists. So he comes off sad when he has to tell you about Waylon Jennings snorting pounds of coke. It’s like an R-Rated King of the Hill. Just a lot of fun and I left it more willing to embrace Country Music.

Oh but here’s where you can currently watch the show proper. Just watch and have fun. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8eytud

One last note, the episode of Blaze Foley absolutely broke my heart. It reminded me of how King of the Hill could grab you with empathy.

It's such a great show. Mike's art style recreating his love and life with country music (and not just being used in King of the Hill) is very passionate. I never cared for country music, and this show isn't changing my mind, or hell, anyone's mind about country, but you don't have to like the genre to know that it's still a heartwarming, if heartbreaking, show.

I think I just love Mike Judge’s work so much that if I mentally connect the music to his show I can dig it. I already liked Waylon Jennings but now knowing how fascinating his life was he’s just even cooler.

King of the Hill is actually how I was introduced to Willie Nelson as a kid. At the time I never knew who Willie was but the scene where Bobby accidentally hit him with a golf club stuck out to me in my mind.

As an adult I rewatched that episode and thought that moment was really touching where Hank was apologizing about Bobby and Willie responds by telling Hank how Bobby is a good kid.

I've said this time and time again that Mike Judge's body of work has always been consistent with quality and even his worst works still manage to be quality. I'd say his taste in music is incredible, and he's shown that in the series.

unrelated but idiocracy is probably his magnum opus next to KOTH. IT perfectly predicted...no warned us about clown world only its half a millennium early. It makes a great double feature with the Truman show the way beavis and butthead do america is a great double feature if you ever wanna go back to the late 90s mtv era.

I keep waiting to see Fuddruckers turn into “Buttfuckers” as a publicity stunt.

Honorable mention for Mike Judge works, Office Space is one of my favorites as well.
