King of the hill appreciation thread - Yup.

But you are the one that we know is really Hank Hill underneath!
That is true. I also have somewhat a Stan Smith persona as well, but I do have a Hank Hill feel as well. And you are the one Fry and Leela thought was evil, but it was Bender all along.

Peggy Hill was considered a dumb mom with dumber decisions, which was a far cry from the stereotypical dumb dads in animated sitcoms like Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin.
What I like about Peggy as a character is that she falls under the "Dunning-Kruger effect" where Homer and Peter are just sitcom punchline stupid.

Peggy has good qualities. She is a hardworking housewife and works parttime as a substitute teacher. She's capable enough in English to land a gig at the local newspaper & of course is a Boggle Champion. She's always supportive of Hank and also ready to call him out when he's being ridiculous. She has strong morals and is willing to get into uncomfortable confrontations; she didn't give a damn that Cotton Hill was on his deathbed she stood up for Hank when Cotton reverted back to being an abusive asshole.

And while Peggy creates lots of stupid hijinks and can be extremely narcisstic she has her reasons. Going back to @Still Exceptional 's example she's not mad that Bobby had a better name idea, she's mad because Bobby didn't give her credit or thanks. Her ego demands constant constant praise hence "Spa-Peggy and Meatballs." She has a mental breakdown because Bobby is a better cook than herself. The character of Peggy Hill cannot accept that she isn't the best at everything she does. She's delusional enough to enter a Wives Beauty Pageant when all the women competing are more than a decade younger and are actually hot.

I always liked how Peggy would interject with common knowledge statements like "In my opinion Thanksgiving is the busiest time of year for travel." It's always in her character's goals to appear knowledgeable.

Thank you! I was trying to figure out how explain why Peggy didn't bother me nearly as bad as other "dumb" characters in cartoons. She definitely has an ego equivalent to someone like Darkwing Duck, but is the subject of less pratfalls and corrections.

I love the episode where she opens up the book and gun shop with Dale. Or the one where she and Hank go naked grilling by the lake. She's a pretty decent character written with more nuance and shading than a lot of her equivalents are.

Caught a little bit of Beavis and Butthead Do America on TV tonight.

Didn't really watch the MTV show or the movie in the 90s.

It was strange seeing proto Hank Hill as a character in the movie.

I think I'd heard Mike Judge talk about inspiration for the character before.

But it was still strange hearing the Hank Hill voice with janky Tracey Ullman-Simpsons era character animations.
