Thank you for that, I wonder what his life would have been like if he got the Mechanic's roll, even a bicycle mechanic.
I know what you mean, but I am talking from experience here he's going to need to have to reach rock bottom and realise he needs help before he accepts it, and he will reach that bottom several times before that happens. He's also going to have to confront a lot of personal demons along the way and putting it bluntly own up to a lot of shitty things he's said and done -
1) Everybody has a point or two in there lives if they drink they get a little too drunk and the Social and Physically safety's get disengaged. You admit to that girl you like you really really like them, tell your boss he's a cunt, eat a iffy kekbab and wake up with a hangover and half remberd things you need to apologise for, you'll piss off and upset a lot of people but after a while things move forward.
2) Your safety's are not just disengaged they snapped off and your free wheeling through a haze of alcohol and bad decisions. you destroy any friendships you might have had and you start associating yourself with people who are making equally poor life choices, you can't hold a job, your interests Wain and your dreams die as you only start hungering more and more for your escape of choice, even if you had strong will power once you don't know - you sober is no longer in control it's that weak ghost of a person the booze or drugs have replaced and it takes a awful lot to get back to you.
Josh has the misfortune of having Autistic narrow focus of interests, the teenage sense towards rebellion against the grain, and a additive personality he would have found himself addicted to something, if it wasn't drink it would be drugs (and he's doing them too), gambling or something else that alters his mental state as a way of dealing with a need for quick and fast rewards, because he's running on a more basic set of instincts he can't for lack of a better term a defair reward for a better sense of satisfaction he's more than happy to settle for the quicker faster if fleeting one he gets from being in a altered stated, he has fallen into the low personal sense of self worth, reward and gratification most if not all addicts suffer from and then it becomes a feedback loop of self destructive behaviour.
With his other problems drinking is going to be a fuck of a thing to kick if he ever gets to that point and sadly unless he finds a very good displacement activity to replace booze he's not going to kick it even when he reaches bottom he will just have passing periods where he does better for a while and then yoyo's back into addiction and each time the crash will be harder and the recovery harder.
