It has to do with ssi rules. Ssi after certain disregards, takes a dollar for every two made. Donations count against ssi, so do gifts cards etc. not reporting this means his check hasn’t been adjusted properly every month, so he will have a big overpayment on his record.So Josh gets tips through paypal from paypigs and it's speculated (most likely true) that he isn't tracking them or documenting them for his year taxes. Josh is on SSI and it could disqualify him from recieving further SSI if he's making too much. I'm not sure exactly how much he gets but I don't believe it's a large enough sum for the IRS to get on his ass. Generally they go after more important cases with more money not being reported.
The ssa rarely prosecutes fraud. The oig (ssa fraud unit) only investigates cases where there’s ample evidence of fraud, and in big numbers. They will want their money back but 99.99 percent of the time, the ssa just enacts a payment plan.
