On one hand it took a dozen or so Horse Boners to hold back his south flank, on the other hand my mages just didn't want to cast evocations on huge masses of stuff. Guess I overestimated the range on Lighting Bolt.
Lost 75 horse boners and 28 Cats plus change in exchange for everything he had. (200~ Jotuns, 60 Giants and........ 0 gems.)

You could have probably taken them and/or Agartha if you weren't a PUTO that casts Wild Hunt.

If you play against Xibalba, Mictalan, Caleum, etc. you should really see the flying units attacking a mile away to be honest. Literally have a huddled mass of men on mages set to hold and attack fliers. or Hell do that AND have a mass of infantry kitted to fight them in the back. They only have so many methods of targetting, and mages and commanders aren't explicitly one of em.

It's a matter of Mass, really, they all died in the fight above (Positive KDR though) since they got surrounded but if I bothered to bring more support then things could have been different...
Actually maybe I could have just had them footslog now that I think about it...


Also since I spent some gems on Akashic Record, (probably would have been better saved for something else), anyone care for a preview of the graphs?

Due to a certain someone I could only spare enough astrals to probe the other great power, but I also probed everyone around turn 40-50 so you can try and compare yourself to me and Yomi.

No big surprises here as I'm essentially playing Scales and my turmoil is limited to the dozen or so blood hunt provinces instead of fucking everywhere.

Yomi's land is a mess of turmoil but he has gems. I would have had even more but the map generation only put five sites between the trone of Law and Scorery (RIP all the gems I spent on 2 Akashic Knowledge casts)

Not gonna post the graph for blood, unless someone tried breaking into it past turn 40~ I'm the only one actively blood hunting.

Yeah,

I have 3000 research per month now. Seeing my research dominance when I first probed everyone basically set me on the path of el tortuga.

I have Drain 2 but it isn't a big deal when you set up research forts on your neighbors' borders and have a shitton of research boosters.

Just had an apocalyptic fight with Yomi, figured I'd share what happened, what went good and bad, in my favor (me, I am Pyrene)

Pros

• 5 Sorginas caused so much damage.
• Mairu Champions are tough
• Had more units because of free goats

Cons

• lost gold units
• lost a Mairu Champion
• Mairu Champions couldn't kill fast enough

• ko-oni's punched way above their weight, likely with their ethereal form
• free spawn, so only thing lost was time

Cons

• Zero mage support

Goats as the front-line and absorb what ever damage the oni's will give
not much else to give other than Mairu giants were on hold and attack rear, and the Berkyde Warriors were hold and attack

Because I had mage superiority, several enchantments go off. Namely howl and storm

A Mairu Champion along with his bodyguards breach the backlines but will it be enough?

both armies had enough and my army routes (around 14 Morale), while the main ko-oni (11 Morale) blob routes. However, the few and elite Aka-Oni (16 Morale) and Amanojaku onis (18 Morale) aren't broken and pursue the fleeing giants

the champion that broke into the backlines attempts to run, but he was crippled during combat, sealing his fate

Somehow the game determined that I won. And, I am not entirely sure why.

Conclusion
Despite my victory, this victory was pyrrhic , as the onis I fought were not only freespawn, but they were the weakest of their kind (ko-onis). My losses include, gold units (cavemen, bekryde warriors, and Mairu Giants), gems from enchantments, and my Mairu Champion Commander. However, if the game says I won the fight (which by all account I didn't). I wont question it and will take my pyrrhic victory in stride.

Since Pyrene doesn't have easy priests, banishing the oni's spiritform would have been an expensive endeavor, had I not had my sorginas with their cheap, huge aoe air magic. Although the damage was like 5(+?) (lacerating winds) so, my cat-ladies where able to carry the army on their backs

Someone tell Yomi that if he moves his lone Dai Oni back to the Air Throne I'll redirect my Mind Hunts somewhere else so the force heading to take said throne has something to fight (and I can cast THAT).
Otherwise I don't think those fishies and snakes are going to stop me from taking it and dropping a Citadel on top of it.

Turn 77: The Eve of Ascension

Spoiler: Mictlan v. Pyrene:

Some raiding with the red witches, one dies to cave onis, one succeeds at taking a province (Disease Demon Visit Soon) and another one also succeeds but then gets got by Yomi who attacks the same province.
Two small armies threaten MY cave and so I send some Janitors from Beyond to clean them up.

The Mairu Champs got gear but both say "fuck it" and bail.

Spoiler: Mictlan v Niefel

Niffles' throne gets taken this turn, my army suffered a lot of casualties last turn (70 dead horse boners and a fair number of dead eaglemen, and more importantly one dead High Priest) when he attacked with 60 giants and 80 jotuns because I neglected to check my gems and scripts and so ended up forgot to script armywide cold resistance while also casting Army Air Shield instead of Army Mistform. This time I remember to mist things up but still forget about a proper cold res spell.
Jarl Kills a bunch of eagles before HP-routing when the rest of the Castle Defenders die.

A high priest stays asleep for long enough to not cast any evocations and kill himself to our Blood Vengeance and will claim the throne.


Also since he stalls he doesn't move a raiding Niefel Jarl and I send in an Arch Devil to duel him (originally was going to try preventing a relief of Caelum, which is still sieged by a lone scout camping out next to a big sign that reads "SOON".)
Two lighting items make it a pretty one sided fight, though sadly he gets killed normally instead of being banished by the Infernal Scythe.

Spoiler: Mictlan vs Yomi

A lot of back and forth raiding and random mind hunts and assassinations, with some stalled raids by yomi because the lone oni hauler got soul slain or taken by a demon. The most important battle was on the throne of Air where my forces encountered some PD that routed immediately due to insufficient magic leadership I guess. He did move his army from my land back to regroup with a stronger force. Not sure why he left it unforted but I'm going to fix that in about 3 seconds. Also yes, I took a stealth High Priest there on the same turn.

Not bothering to crop my income and taking the chance to complain about still being stuck with the default +3 blood slaves from my capital despite site searching everywhere.

Spoiler: AI vs. Yomi and Mictlan

Yomi Storms Marverni with a huge force and takes it. The monolith puts up a good fight but dies eventually, also it seems Marverni never researched Gifts from Heaven nor has he given the Monolith the reconstruction item so the onis eventually bash it to death. (Note2Self, get one for my own Statue in case of assassinations)

The celtoids drain global was taken down last turn and this marks the end of the Eyes of God and that gem gen.


Also at some point Yomi lost End of Culture, I assume it got dispelled instead of his god being dead.

AI Mekone sends a strong force at Yomi but since it's all in a retard attack immediately mob it eventually breaks despite inflicting significant casualties on the onis.

In turn, Yomi tries to storm one of Mekone's forts with a Dai Oni and friends but the big guy gets taken down by handsome bodybuilders throwing discuses from the ramparts. He didn't have a blessing scripted so he didn't benefit from the Air Shield throne which is still in effect this turn.

I took a random fort off of Marverni and lost a hundred siege chaff units (mostly corpse constructs) because the Devil I sent in as a heavy hitter kept flying from one end of the wall to the other instead of walking one square to hit more slingers.

Spoiler: Sauro and Indies

As mentioned before, Yomi has been beaten back from Sauromatia's cap. He just got stuck at the gates and couldn't break through the skeletons while being hit with Solar Brilliance and Evocations. Sauro's god does have the reconstruction item so Yomi won't be able to take the cap anytime soon without bringing a counter.


Also I sent my Heliophaguses at the lone still unconquered throne and they took it without any trouble. Sadly the High Priest meant to take it is LATE so I don't get a Triple Throne Claim.

One thing I've learned from playing this game for around four years is that you can absolutely lose a siege from skele spam alone. I also vastly underestimated how well Solar Brilliance does versus an army of demons. Do an army wide MR boost and cast that, you're golden. I didn't like my pretender at first but I've warmed up to it, but it needs some tweaks. Made quite a few mistakes this game but it happens.

Turn 78: Month 1. Year 1 of El Mundo Nuevo

Spoiler: The Battle for the Air Throne

First Wave: Madmen, I think this is Imprint Souls.

Completely worthless but it does prompt gem use. which would be a game changer had I forgotten to give this group extra gems.


Second Wave: The Demon Horde

And that was that. The army routed just as they reached the summoned skellies and didn't touch the Holocaust Squad but as I said before, I also cast a fort spell on the province so even if he could beat this I wouldn't have lost the throne.

Niffles stalled so nothing attacked the backup throne I was going to claim this turn if some freak accident made it so the game continued.

Spoiler: Other Stuff

A lot of back and forth. Pyrene sends more stacks at the provinces where the last ones were erased, they beat a scout and several dozen cave onis respectively. I lose a bunch of provinces to raids since I didn't feel like moving shit.
An Arch Devil walks into a Yomi army and doesn't manage his fatigue very well so he doesn't resurrect when he blows up.

Pyrene tries fighting Onis with Elephants....

It turns out to not be as effective as a storm of fire and he loses a ton of stuff.

(Elephants CAN be pretty effective against Lone Dai Onis though.


A Dai Oni gets beaten by two magic mirror commanders spammin illusions while the horse boners around him do nothing (he ended up targeting the illusions almost every time with his brand)

I dumped 25 (minus conjuration site discount) gems on searching the newly taken throne and....

FUCK OFF, the Sun Throne got 4 and I searched it the slow way!
