How do I solve the eternal bullet spread question?

Sadly I can't play on the server unless you want to see some retard lagging around the map, but I hope it's successful enough that you or other users can create other server around the world.

Tbh It's only really bad when playing spy. I'm in Europe and I almost exclusively play on a youtubers server in chicago, which isnt too bad.


Also I will stock up on secret Saxton gifts to share with you guys.
 
I've updated the name hiding plugin to be slightly less useless (the original scope was really to protect chat and the A2S protocol aka when you view server info from the server browser) as it now should silence name changes on the server.

(also removed cp_cloak as it was sorted on the mapcycle in different place than usual, oops)

1. Get rid of the Halloween restriction
I've installed a plugin that enables halloween cosmetics without messing things up on maps.

4. Many players and I found the server to be quite laggy. There were a few lag spikes too.
I wonder if those were server ping related or tickrate related, I'll look into it, but for future reference if anyone is having these, set net_graph 4 in the console and if the PING value is jumping around or the LOSS/CHOKE values are above zero around then it's a network issue otherwise if the SV value is wildly fluctuating from 66.7 which is the default then the hardware is not able to keep up which is strange...

@babaisyou are you interested in setting up a server for the US? I can offer you a VM if you wish. I assume the UDP relay means it can't be layer 4 DDoSed?
I'm not in a great position to self-deploy right now but I can deploy on a VM if you wish to donate one. I just hope that this doesn't cause any large fragmentation between the player base. The UDP relay should be pretty tolerant of attacks as it has authentication for clients and adjustable rate-limiting for queries, it should survive...

Send me a PM with it's rough location and specs and I'll see if it's feasible.

Let it be known that people can still pull up your Steam account using the in-game overlay. Hopped into the server to see my ping (it was trash) and some kid from Bulgaria jumped in.
If what kills the server is not a lack of interest, but everyone being too scared to join because they'll be instadoxed, I'll eat my unusual.

I don't know if I am misremembering things. But I think some games (and possible some servers in source games) do allow disabling showing player info in the overlay. But don't quote me on that.

i still find it dumb, outside of what patty wrote up here it still sounds like there's no confidence in their own hygiene despite the endless reminding about it, do as you (not you) say not as you do?

For me it's just the lag, I played a couple matches and even with fiber internet shit's bouncing around and rockets are coming out half a second later than they should.

@babaisyou If people are really that concerned about their privacy, you could maybe host the server on the Source SDK 2013 patched build of early 2008 TF2 (there's instructions on the bottom of the GitHub page on how to host a server).

This would negate loadouts and thus make everyone less identifiable plus I don't believe you can open Steam profiles through the scoreboard in this.

Think people would need to run the same patched version of the game then as far as I remember from past Vanilla TF2 projects.
 
@babaisyou Here are a few maps I'd suggest


Harbl_Hotel needs sv_cheats 1 and tf_allow_player_use 1 enabled for player functions and buttons to work and Mario kart 2008 might not work, but I'm trying to get that authentic 2008 experience and you can only work with workshop right now.

Can you disable or minimize player character's voicelines cooldown? Although that would require you to mute in-game chat messages for those voicelines with a plugin. The chat will become unreadable if not disabled. Could be fun to spam "pootis" with "Place Dispenser" command as a Heavy, make Scout say "sneed" with spamming the same command or "Place Sentry". I really doubt that will somehow affect the gameplay.
