>Central Command, a Jewish puppet, dislikes this and orders the head of "Tyrone Watermelon" for his attempts at cultural enrichment

>clearly, Todd Scott must respect Tyrone's status as a proud and upstanding English man!

>oh... guess not...
>the captain, Tyrone Watermelon, is depicted below, showing purely Anglonian phenotypic traits!

>Enter stage left, the new actor to throw a wrench in the murder of Tyrone the Captain, A bomb!
Screenshot 2024-08-31 231247.png
>clearly, this is an attack by a well-armed syndicate agent aiming to cut the head of the prestigious SS13 by blowing up the bridge by throwing a bomb at us!
>could Tyrone be behind this? A syndicate agent with bombs???????????????
Screenshot 2024-08-31 231259.png

>clearly not!
>so... what can quickly arm the crew into becoming the most violent and dangerous group of people to create an inhospitable environment for guests?

>partially... anyways...

this one's special!
> a secret syndicate agency by the name of ISIS sent in a rather capable agent into the field to conduct various tasks!
>clearly, ISIS was terribly annoyed by the strong and capable progressive DEI staff's defense! Tyrone Watermelon is far too much of a power house!
Screenshot 2024-08-31 232258.png
>As such, C4, a pen that puts people to sleep, a silenced pistol, and some ammo were provided to the capable "operator" Ruban Sneete!
>now... where would Tyrone, the brave and brilliant DEI employee be???
>oh! I KNOW!
>He's stealing insulated gloves 1 minute into the shift, walking right by me!

>given this, as an advanced syndicate operative, I can guess he's trying to hack into some place!
>luckily, I was in the right place at the right time!
>he was alone in front of the science hallway (busy breaking in with his stolen gloves) so I had the chance to pull the fire alarm, locking us in for a brief moment!
> Notably, old mixes of syndicate sleeping drugs can act incredibly fast! (some say unfairly fast, but, you shouldn't be standing next to people usually... but uh... it's a strong combo... yeah...)

>with Tyrone knee'd on by plastic explosives provided by the FBI ISIS, it's time to move onto the next mission!
>It was uneventful
>I broke into xenobiology through space, fiddled with it, then discovered that completing the objective by extracting a core is very difficult or impossible! Who knows!
>supposidely, they had to automate extract farming with a grinder...

>anyways...
>have a plan to kill someone, steal their identity, and grab the nuke disk when no one's watching!

NT PSA states that you are to talk to people to discover if they sound like what they should! Identity theft is no joke!
Silence is violence!
The Syndicate PSA states that you should carefully think about what you're doing and plan things out!
...
The Syndicate send yet another PSA: Make sure to practice pressing the buttons on the Nuke to ensure you don't butter-finger the nuke's code

>be clown
>give everyone AA
>do two objectives
>last one seems to have already been done by someone else... but... I N E E D TO DO I T
>get completely infinitely slipped by a man who can drag me off and onto a tile with a banana peel (he was my target)
>Clinton Clinton sustained a total of 7 minutes of clown slippage for John Hardt to gawk at
>Clinton Clinton also managed to type during this (impressive)

>blow him up
Screenshot 2024-09-01 002006.png
>meet the endlessly robust Jared who uses the objective I need (the captain's laser gun) to cripple me
Screenshot 2024-09-01 001943.png
>decide to use a change of clothes to blend in and avoid the death squad that's arrived on station
>take off backpack
>the backpack with two of my objectives in it
>SYNDICATE LOYALTY IMPLANT DETECTED A LOSS IN OBJECTIVE, TIME REMAINING TO LIVE TO COMPLETE OBJECTIVES... 10 MINUTES!
>SYNDICATE LOYALTY IMPLANT DETECTED A LOSS IN OBJECTIVE, TIME REMAINING TO LIVE TO COMPLETE OBJECTIVES... -3 MINUTES!

>loyalty implant explodes!
whoops!

Good game everyone! Amazing work and keep care till next Saturday!

Is there anybody who makes highlight vidyas or streams this?

I'm super interested in the stories that play out, but not at all in playing.
I made a video on page 82. I would be interested in making more going forward if my schedule lets me get on ever again. Most people seem to prefer green text format stories. Might also try streaming but this is all in the air right now.

Does the server still run on a prehistoric cave painting version of tg?
Same original codebase of 2015 bay that it has been since the start, but it's had a large amount of modification at this point

Also genuine question for pretty much anybody who keeps asking why the codebase is from such an old fork as it came up a lot during yesterdays rounds and I seriously don't fucking understand it. After all the work that's been put into the cood, regardless of how old the original fork is (which is one of the things that makes Riviera unique, plus as Gecko has stated before is one of the main points of the server in the first place), why exactly does anybody think he would just throw all the effort amd time he's put into it straight in the trash and go to a newer codebase just to essentially start over from scratch? That would be an absolute waste

Because the old code is really out of date and lacks the utilities and a lot was refactored and you'd need to spend hours to bring it up to date.

And some of the stuff is really cool and necessary (action icons) or required for some antags (changeling stings, don't get me started on heretics) and you'd have to spend hours on top the work you already have to do to port some of the stuff in. Don't get me started on atmos, medical/metabolism, engineering and materials...

And it's just not fucking worth it for a 10pop server that will probably die in a couple of months to spend hours to port some basic cool feature from another codebase.

Naturally, however it's all open source. If there's things you reckon could be added or improved why not contribute? Besides if you enjoy working on said changes who fucking cares how much time it takes, the hours fly by and it's worth seeing said work you've put in come to life when it starts functioning the way you want it to

I just said it: the codebase is 9 years old now and you'd need 20 hours just to refactor and bring a lot of code up to date.

I've been trying to port tentacle changeling spell from hippie and jesus fucking christ, I'd need to port 3 major systems, each taking about 20 hr each, just for the one spell. Why fucking bother?

If I want to contribute, I'd rather deal with the tg tranny jannies and their retarded bug/feature system than having to update SS13 codebase from 2015 one feature at a time.

Now consider the time it would take to add back the old combat system with intents for example and rebalancing everything. The time to fix the codebase either way is a massive time investment, but not only has significant time already been spent on the current code already, but the old code is much more lean and has 10 less years of shitty spaghetti weighing it down. Smaller code is easier to change, and easier to contribute to as its easier to get familiar with.

I don't think a simple feature should absolutely require 3 major systems for its function. You don't have to just graft new content straight on, it might be easier to rewrite it to be smaller and not use these systems that would otherwise specifically be used by this on piece of code. But I don't know what the "tentacle changeling spell" is, so I don't know what you need. I'm not familiar with newer code.

Also, @geckogoy, I'm thinking of adding gas mixtures and more chemistry reactions, maybe more engineering constructs. Not many specific ideas yet, I'm just wondering if the framework for gas mixtures like freon exists in this revision and if there's any guidelines for adding content.

Pretty sure Hippie still has that shit and most tg forks.

I think only tg main and paradise got rid of it?

Pretty much.

Last I checked it needs:
Action icons (which are 100 systems on their own)
And beams (the effect)
And projectile spells (that are way out of date in current)
Some spell related datums
And a lot of other stuff I can't recall

The only way is to either spend hours implementing the systems, or just grafting them. And some of these systems require you to dive into the rendering and interface and 100 other things. Keep in mind that I don't have VScode, so I have to grep/search and replace/introduce all these systems by hand. Tried implementing polymorph datums from Bee, and the mask spell, but holy shit that requires 10h of work each and it's just not worth it.

Listen, a lot of codebases (Hippie, Merch) are pretty up to date and not a decade old. Why not rebase on top of that ones?

And calling it "10 years of spaghetti" is pure hubris. The current codebase as is is already spaghetti shitcode. 10 years helped to fix it. Nobody here is some coder god that can build 10 years of SS13 better. So fuck off with that shit.

As a newfag that has never played another server before. It is rather hard to start learning the basic controls but i think the players in the server made up for it by being EXTREMELY patient with me and literally explaining things to me step by step like the retard i am.
Which im very thankful for.

Hey, 20 was high pop back in the old days.

Easiest way to learn is to grab the code, host your own private server and fuck around. Bonus that you also get to learn how to adminbuse while your at it if we ever start getting jan jans.

I never said the preexisting code wasn't spaghetti, but its had 10 less years of additions, additions which bloat the size of the codebase and are likely not much better quality than the current code. The code has swapped hands so much, and projects like /tg/ have how many contributors coming and going? That's a lot of people with different ideas. It's a given when this happens. At least the old code is a more manageable pile.
10 years helped to fix it. Nobody here is some coder god that can build 10 years of SS13 better. So fuck off with that shit.
I checked /tg/ and it has some of the same schizo folder structuring as the old code, but even worse, as if they haven't made any concerted effort to sweep it up in the past 10 years. They can't be blamed as said before. But typescript, that's pretty cringe bro. I think that's enough reason to not fork /tg/.
Action icons (which are 100 systems on their own)
I'll look into whatever this is. It sounds worth adding if its that complex. Other systems don't sound very bad.
Keep in mind that I don't have VScode, so I have to grep/search and replace/introduce all these systems by hand.
Nigger how are you able to survive in current year? Don't touch Java you will get a collapsed lung.
Listen, a lot of codebases (Hippie, Merch) are pretty up to date and not a decade old. Why not rebase on top of that ones?
Intents, not having typescript it seems is a noticeable improvement. But the old code is still so much smaller and easier to read.
