Ok what would the roles (because from what I understand from my brief time in /tg/, Goonstation, and the colonial marines server different servers have different roles0

imma be real with you, you probably have a better idea of important roles to have, i play chief and botanist in most rounds. from the sounds of what people are saying i imagine we would need to maybe come up with a unique way of running a station or set of rules. maybe lax on swears that are mean and unsayable in other servers, but clamp hard on sexual content.
do you know what language of code ss13 uses? can a man learn it decent enough on his own to not just make a shit show. assuming the kiwi farms does not have any well behaved coders and will have to build a team from scratch. do you know how much capital is needed to buy the server space to permanently host a server. how much we talking a month. Also would we even be allowed to gather said funds because we are the evil stinky website people.

It was a version of TF2 made by an anon on 8chan/v/ for the gamenights. The goal was to have an experience closer to the original version, then he decided to patch the pyro and add more crap that people didn't want. Also at the same time there was another anon who started some autistic drama because people were playing /v/intage instead of his version.

SS13 uses some creaky old designed for windows 95 engine called byond and to say that SS13 stretches the possibilities of it is a massive understatement.
The ss14 c# re-write is really unfinished and unitystation is at the mercy of whatever unity technologies feel like breaking on that particular day.

Going with /tg/'s baseline job set is probably ideal. Modifications/unique roles could be implemented based on necessity and/or what it might add to the round-to-round gameplay of the server.

I'm a little iffy on the issue of banning the GAMER words because, on the one hand, censorship in a relatively self-contained community like this one is retarded, but, on the other hand, completely free reign for people to call each other "NIGGERS" usually results in frequent greytiding.

I agree on principle and in theory, but lawyers serve a roleplay capacity more than anything else, and it's at the whim of the server's players whether or not to indulge in the experience. Otherwise, Security and Command roles couldn't give a fuck about the presence of a Lawyer on station and people generally only roll it to have SOME Security access and to annoy the shit out of Shitcurity.

Does anybody know the logic behind why SA did not open-source their SS13 implemetation from the original stolen code? Was it for legal reasons, or just goons being goons? If this is not an accurate representation of events, the reason is that I knew nothing about this game (outside the broad stroke description). What I know about the game comes from this video:

I don't know the officially given reason, but, with regards to how Goon is set up, a couple of "safe bet" extrapolations could be made. One being, Goon has one of the most uniquely implemented formats for the game that no other server has and they don't want a bunch of Goon derivatives out there flooding BYOND's server listings. Another speculation being, Goon has several "server secrets" that aren't openly documented anywhere and, in order to protect and preserve those secrets so people don't just metagame and trigger them every round (because some of those secrets have catastrophic round-altering events tied to them, like Sol), they refuse to let the codebase be open source. All about preserving the spirit of "fun" and "mystery", in a sense.
Also, if we're gonna talk SS13 YouTubers, might I recommend giving Mr. Tex of the Black Pants Legion a watch? He has a long running archive of long-form, sometimes multi-round, videos of him playing and commentating over SS13 rounds dating back to 2016, and I've found his commentary often makes for comfy background noise (until fun stuff starts happening, which warrants attention), and he tends to muse upon an incredibly wide variety of topics in his commentary, from current-round shenanigans, thoughts on the game and community as a whole, general philosophy and worldviews, and little, personal, life stories of interest all the while having a considerably soothing voice to listen to.

I'd say two of /tg/'s biggest mistakes was removing cloners and recently nerfing mining.

Kiwis would be great to do alot of things with, its the tinfoils that ruin it for the rest of us.
Here's why it wouldn't work, its not hosted by null himself, everyone will complain that the server will either be taken down or lead to kiwis getting doxed, the server will be empty a majority of the day, but most of all theres just gonna be a bunch of vandalism everywhere on the server.
