That's been going on for awhile now. Every time he does something embarrassing, a lot of the left actually tries to make the ridiculous claim that he's a right-winger. Because obviously if they don't want him he must be with the other guys.

The original in-depth investigative journalism on his child pornography scandal was from CounterPunch, a far left publication tending toward anarcho-communism. He actually is pretty far right of where they are, but they described him accurately as an establishment liberal of the "liberals get the bullet too" stripe.

They originally called him a right-winger, even though the guy's literally a Marxist.

I don't think he's actually a Marxist, although he agrees with Marx on some things. The fact that he's a famous academic leftist is hardly hard to find out, though, for a so-called "news" organization.

This is why people say things like "fake news." They don't even do rudimentary fact checking any more, just start screeching NAZI NAZI at whatever they see.

Okay, so I noticed that in his tweet chain, he said the attack happened in his 20's, and that he told his wife around 2004, which he said would've been after 24 years of marriage, and about 30 years after the attack. Thing is, Eichenwald was born in 1961, which meant that the attack would've happened in the 80's, if that were the case.

And as it was pointed out in the Killstream, if the injuries incurred during the attack did require him to be hospitalized, then there would be a record of his visit.

We all know Kurt is full of shit, and is using this to justify his side's bullshit while plugging his gay book, but holy shit.

If Kurt was assraped in the 80's, it was because he was out trolling the absolute seediest gay bars in the city, the ones in the worst most dangerous neighborhood, down by the docks, specifically looking for something rough. Not that I believe anything that comes from Kurt. But if he somehow found a dick in his ass in the 80's, it was exclusively because he went somewhere and did something expressly for the purpose of getting a dick in his ass. Then felt dirty about it afterwards.

And it's not just limited to the case of Eichenwald. To cross-post an example I used elsewhere, no less a sterling leftist institution than The New Yorker does it. And that, I might add, is one of the very few institutions to still maintain a full-time staff of fact-checkers.

I'd imagine Eichenwald's probably one of those surface deep male feminists. Probably actually subscribes to a lot of traditional values about masculinity and strength, and since he knows he can't live up to them he instead elects to make noises about loving all about these liberated, powerful women while secretly hating all of them's guts.

It's meaningless that Kurt might 'remember everything' or specific events unless those memories are factual. Human memory doesn't work like a DVD, showing everything that happened just as it was recorded. Stuff... changes. And trying to recognize what's real from what has been shifted one way or another is like a crazy person trying to think rationally. You can't get out of your own mind.

This has been shown in many studies where people are sure they remembered something that is proven to be wrong. Sometimes they're still sure afterwards despite overwhelming evidence and sometimes they can rationally say "yes, I must be wrong" but still insist that their memory exists as it did before. Victims of rape where the suspect is proven innocent later still are sure it was him. Their mind took the suspect and implanted it in the memory. Happens all the time and it's part of the reason eyewitness testimony is not great and police are supposed to use a lot of controls to deal with it (not letting witnesses talk about what happened, photo lineups, etc) and why statutes of limitations exist.

Because anyone that thinks they can remember something that happened decades ago with perfect clarity- or believes that their memories are infallible- just doesn't understand it.
