Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

As someone who generally dislikes JRPGs and anime shit, Xenoblade Chronicles 1 is a fantastic game. X was fun too, but mostly just because the world and art direction is amazing. 2 was a massive disappointment and soured me on the entire series. I refuse to play 3 because I hated 2 so much.
2 was arguably hot garbage (for fans of the series pre-2017), but 3 is much better, not as good as 1 or X but I still think its worth playing.

Me too because I don't remember any of it, just like I don't remember any actual content the game had.
Listening to people talk about BOTW makes me feel like I have fucking dementia. I put over 30 hours in and remember none of it. I did eventide island, which is apparently unique in restricting you in any way, but I don't remember doing anything particularly interesting there compared to everywhere else. I remember getting to fly through rings like in Superman 64. I remember trying to use the environment in creative ways in combat, but it doing pathetic damage and being slower compared to flurry rush and arrow slow-mo. There was a dragon at some point, which was kind of neat. Shrines? Only the combat ones that you can't beat if you don't have enough strong weapons to feed into the grinder. I remember lots and lots and lots of korok seeds and opals. I remember an insufferable lolicon bait character.

If I hadn't just had the Matthewmatosis BOTW video on the background, I probably wouldn't even remember most of that. The footage from that video looks like a BOTW from a completely different universe, I didn't see ANY of the shit in that video. That might be why I didn't see the most revolutionary and incredible Zelda game, or even open-world game, either.

You'll forgive my confusion. I see where you're coming from with the ackshully 100 years old thing, though I wish I didn't.

Different experiences perhaps.

Because I remember a ton of what I experienced. Whether it was all the build-ups to each of the 4 Guardians, the memory fragments, stepping into each of the villages for the first time, the giant mazes which housed not just a shrine, but also powerful enemies, gaining the Master Sword for the first time, shield surfing down the snowy mountains, finding ways that were indeed faster at killing enemies than just flurry-rush and arrow slo-mo (freezing them, sneaking up on enemy encampments, blowing them off the cliff, etc), learning about the history of the Four Champions and Zelda's plight, and located the Leviathan Skeletons. And that's just the one's off the top of my head.

Maybe it's because I had a far better time playing the game, but saying that the game is completely unmemorable is a take I simply can't agree with.

Unrelated but there's a new crowbcat video about the Resident Evil 4 remake. If you're tired of senseless debate over Zelda, take a breather and have some senseless debate about Resident Evil. It's pretty much as kino as this and people are completely melting down.

I think it also helps to ask how old one was when they played their favorite game, as when you're young you can't really grasp that the game is fiction and so everything feels so real, but as you get older you slowly lose the ability to immerse yourself in the game world. Replaying an old favorite with familiar settings and rules may seem more engaging solely because you remember it being engaging. I've discovered that myself where I've tried PC games and third party games that were very popular, but as i didn't get into them when i was younger I just couldn't get engaged with them when I got around to playing them. It doesn't mean those games are lifeless and terrible, just I couldn't relate to them.

I'm playing with the handheld/pro controller scheme but I admit having trouble to properly swing the sword. First time I'm playing this title too.

so I have to disagree on the notion that just using the weapons was the most effective and fine solution most of the time.
Well, it's usually faster to just one up to something with the royal weapons and start hacking away. Although, electrocuting or burning them was fun, but it also got old.

There's only one that had those and that was an optional challenge

I mean, I didn't get the royal weapons until much later, and even then, the fact that they were the least durable still made me want to use different methods. Heck, many times, it was more effective and faster to not just hack away.

Man, I feel like I'm one of the only people here that is really excited for TOTK as opposed to being all cynical.

Don't worry, I am too, the game looks like a better BotW, which is what I wanted, I do have a lot of problems with BotW that I hope are at somewhat fixed in TotK, like the main dungeons and boss fights, based on the trailer they do seem to be but I am not 100% sure.

I would be too if it were more like $30. A buncha reused assets and graphics that look like they belong in 2005 doesn't make a $70 price tag easy to swallow. Shit man you don't even get an instruction manual with these games anymore

Just my opinion, but what all I saw in the final trailer was not what I would find in a mere asset flip and reuse, and the graphics I don't have a problem with. Just me though.
