Legend of Zelda thread - Lorefags GTFO!

The Zelda lore is getting pushed back an additional time.

Wasn't triforce heroes meant to be an alternate spinoff universe?
Also how the fuck is four swords adventures after twilight princess now? Where's the first four swords gone? Why is it gone?
Did they just staple nuZelda into the old timeline? I thought the entire reason for throwing out the old lore and bullshitting ahead 10,000 years was so that they could "start fresh" or whatever. I refuse to believe the furry-founded hyrule is the same one as LTTP and Ocarina.
The first BOTW makes sense being in the same world as the prior games, there's hints of what timelne it takes place in as I said years ago with shit like the dead koholint island area and the OOT ranch ruins/swapped kokiri forest and hyrule temple positions. Them replacing the old sage guy rauru with the furry alien who founded hyrule despte skyward sword's deal being hyrule being founded was where it kind of fell apart in terms of fitting in. Weird how it's just tacked onto the side instead of showing the actual intended spot. Can't be windwaker timeline because ganon perma-died n that one and was literally buried under the ocean with the remains of old hyrule. Ganon technically perma-died in TP too but we're not gonna go into that one given they now frame BOTW as like after it but nebulously so. Would make more sense for cultists to revive him or some shit in that one than Windwaker where he's a sad guy that kinda regrets his past actions and is just employing pirates and goons and shit to kidnap kids so he can find a royal family descendant to try and use them to unflood hyrule (so he can rule it but still).

She's non-canon for one thing, and a separate character existing alongside Link, not replacing him. I have no problem with that approach, personally.
Hyrule warriors being "non canon" is weird and they kept emphasizng how non canon t was, but then the actual game works out a solid reason why and how Hyrule warriors plot happens n a way it actually sort of fits on the actual timeline of games so I consider it pretty canon. Like it's a full game, it has a full story, it ties in with the other games stories somewhat, it's basically fucking canon in all but name. Yeah though Linkle is a funny concept of "character who isn't link but has similar name so mistaken identity occurs".

The "where's the female link" people fucking never stop bugging me because you can tell they never played any of the games and just go "uuhhh he rescues the princess? YIKES?" You literally have zelda as one of the main fucking characters and the TITLE of the game! you don't have to make link a woman, just give Zelda the adventuring role like she's implied to be doing in OOT under the false alias of sheik or straight up ends up doing alongside link in spirit tracks.

I remember how Nintendo "promised" that Breath of the Wild Link was going to be female (despite him clearly being a dude despite efforts to hide his face in the original teaser) and fake fans were furious when it didn't happen. Same with Link actually totally being Zelda in Tears of the Kingdom because his face also was hidden at first. Weird how Nintendo kept doing that, honestly.

The timeline was literally always there. Ocarina of Time was even explicitly at the beginning to show Ganondorf becoming Ganon for the first time. The Zelda timeline is decades old, it just didn't get properly outlined in a physical way until Skyward Sword.
In LTTP, an evil wizard named Agahnim sneaks his way into the king's inner circle, and uses his position to help carry out his plans. A young boy is tasked with collecting three doodads to get a sword that will make him powerful and then he is sent to a parallel dimension for a final showdown with the wizard who turns out to be Ganon.

In LTTPOOT, an evil wizard named AgahnimGanondorf sneaks his way into the king's inner circle, and uses his position to help carry out his plans. It's the same story, my dude. Ganondorf only has more significance than Agahnim in hindsight, because they kept using him after OOT.

Up until Wind Waker's release, they just kept saying "well, this one takes place 100 years before, I guess" to explain away Ganon being in newer titles because Link explicitly kills Ganon in the first game, and the second game is explicitly based around him still being dead. There was zero attempt at any kind of narrative continuity outside of direct sequels like Zelda 2 and Majora until the 2000s, and to pretend there was is asinine. The whole reason they had to do a timeline split thing is because they didn't even try to write a cohesive story connecting all the games at any point before then and it was the only way they could make them all make sense. Then they even got sick of trying to maintain that, so the new games exist in their own little continuity outside the main continuity because they know it's fake and gay and they don't want to deal with it. It is mind boggling that anyone would take it seriously like this was all planned out when the continuity is so painfully retarded and Nintendo is a company that explicitly emphasis gameplay over story.

Oh, I know. There was a lot of BSing and a lack of cohesion, but ever since the third game there was at least a half-assed attempt from Nintendo to form some vague timeline. People just act like any semblance of a timeline came about only after Skyward Sword when that isn't the case and that's all I was pointing out. One of my favorite tidbits is that Link's Awakening initially took place during Zelda II.

This is in a world where time travel is a common plot point. It's safe to say that causality simply isn't linear in that world. You could wake up in a Hyrule that has been in ruins for decades, then go to bed in a Hyrule that has always been peaceful - because the Hero of Time changed the past. The history of the world could change many, many times during your life, but because you change with it you never see the changes.

Well, we have not only bi-directional time travel, but a divergent timeline, pocket dimensions, parallel dimensions, interdimensional travel, at least 8 different lands involved, and numerous various era's from the distant past to the far future of Hyrule alone. Trying to keep that all straight is incredible. At this point I think it would be a challenge for them to come up with anything that haven't already tried.

One thing I would really love is for them to remake both Oracle games and add back in the 3rd game that was cut as a result of it being too complicated to develop 3 interlocking games at that time for such a limited system as the Gameboy Color. That would give each goddess their own game, as it should be.

Echoes of Wisdom is reviewing decently. Seems the only negative is that it's a bit too easy and they don't push the gimmick as far as they could. Not bad for a new director honestly.

This meshes with my experience. 8.5 out of 10. Would have been a near perfect score, but 1) Link is not the main protagonist and 2) Ganon is not the ultimate evildoer.

spirirt tracks wasn't post apocalyptic, was it? What about Tri Force Heros?
It technically was since it's in the WW timeline, but I don't remember if it suffered another apocalyptic event. Pretty sure it didn't and that's why technology advanced to the point of having trains, but I don't remember.

Nah, this way paves the way for Legend of Zelda: Starlit Ocean, where the people of hyrule build great flying colony ships and try to run away from the evil Ganon by travelling to another star system, only to build another hyrule.
Originally Zelda was gonna be scifi, I've always wanted them to revisit their original plans.

They're probably scared to make spinoffs canonical and confuse people or make them hesitant to play the main entries for fear of missing something. It kinda makes sense.

I thought Linkle was a cute idea, it almost made me want to play the game, but then I remembered it's a mind numbing Warriors game.

Lmao yep, it's those people. Totally obsessed with identity politics, utterly poisoned people spreading their disease. And yeah, just having Zelda playable is the right call, or a new female character, there's been other female warriors in the series. They just want two things, to push their progressive bullshit and to coom to their gender swap fetish.

God, if only. The Oracles games are my favorite games in the series. I really have my fingers crossed after Link's Awakening, but I doubt it's gonna happen.

I didn't even realize a new Zelda was coming out today. The reviews look good. Don't know much else besides that first trailer a few months back.

Will pick it up tonight and report.

Oracle of Ages was my first Zelda game, it had some great puzzles and interesting quirks like the ring system. Even managing to do certain time travel elements better than Ocarina of Time. It has a lot of charm, like the sentient tree that wants you, and the many cameos from other Zelda characters like Talon from Ocarina, and Tingle from Majora...

There's even a Midna cameo in there.

Pretty good timing to get covid again. I have literally nothing else to do other than play vidya for the next few days. Hopefully this is as good as it looks.

Edit: It's pretty fucking good. I'm enjoying the hell out of this. Definitely beats Breath of the Mid.

Okay! I went to the Walmart (only place I can get games for 100 miles) and nobody was around to open the case so I bought a few picture frames instead.

Will try again today.

They usually have someone running around the electronics area, but then again, Wal-Mart's been going to shit in light of recent events
Ah I get 50/50 here. If you don't see anyone I just call them over. Either asking customer service to send one or calling the Walmart location number to tell them to send someone. I did once know how to use their intercom paging system so I could've just sent one over myself but that might get me banned.

Did customer service refuse to call someone over to open the case?
Never even made it that far. The whole back end was empty. I actually went behind their (open) counter and looked at their deliveries in hopes of forcing someone to run over to see what I was doing.

I needed the frames anyway so it was no big deal.

The game seems to release to very little fanfare. Maybe because it's not been too long since TotK. Still, seems to be fun, and I hope it sells well. I'm gonna skip it because I don't like 2D Zelda as much and really dislike the artstyle.
